I was so impressed by their defensive effort. May be the best defense I've ever seen the program put up. Just relentless. Completely shut Maryland down the final few possessions.
That was the difference in the game. If we had been able to hit easy layups consistently, it would have been a blow out. However the defensive effort overcame that. For me the play of the game was one that showed how fast Parchment is growing. MD had scored on the same inbound, under the basket, set 3-4 times during the game. It had worked easily every time. They tried it again, down by 1, late in the game. Parchment read it and was able to tip the pass off MD and out of bounds for a turn over. The MD players looked stunned that it didn’t work. Of course the team block that led to Berry’s free throws was amazing as well. I think it was Indy who said earlier that this is what a Shauna Green rebuilding year looks like. I can get use to this!

This was the one and only Quad 1 game they have played, and they are still only 35th in Net Rankings. They are also one of only 5 teams in the top 50 with a Quad 3 loss. Really great win but they still have a hill to climb.

Shauna is #11 in pay. Top 3 - LSU, UCONN and S Carolina all pay $3M/year. MD coach makes $1.9M

Jay did a great job hiring Shauna. I did not expect this level of success based on Dayton resume.

Shauna Green’s Annual Compensation (Including Retention Bonus) Through New Contract Oct 2024. I suspect we if make it to elite 8 she will get a new contract.

our PG Steve Lanter went down with career ending knee injury. We had no back court depth so Mark Smith 6'7" F had to move to back court. Steve very successful business man made nice donation in 2021

Lou fixed with JC transfer Reno Gray the following year. Then killed it by signing future NBA HS AA Derek Harper and JC AA Craig Tucker the year after. Illinois became a fixture in NCAA starting in 1982.

The loge seats were awesome. Big comfy chair with room to spread out. Table to lean on and eat concessions from. It was great. Not sure how I'm gonna go back to slumming it with the peasants in the cheap seats. Lol
Those are great seats. We got seats right behind the bench in what would be the Crush section for men's games and they are awesome. Can hear coach doing her thing which is super cool. Never had seats that close and really enjoying it

Well the eye test tells me this is a formula that works everywhere.. This year's version of Shauna Green's team is better suited because they have more size and speed..The upperclassmen are the leaders, but this freshmen point guard is guiding the team's set offense superbly. It looks like she has the Phoenix offense mapped .She makes great decisions.Sheis a serious disruptive defender all the way up the floor. She can score but realizes she doesn't have to yet,but in the Maryland game I think she decided it's time to add that element... By no means am I saying she is the leader, but no doubt the orchestrator..

Great game, very entertaining.
Parchment had a great motor on defense and rebounds. High intensity. Not playing like a freshman. Wonder what Maryland picked up to target her for iso, something to work on. S&C will help her not fall next year. Good thing she’s a kid and can recover much easier!

Rebounding motors much better this game. Overall defense too. Destiny Jackson an absolute menace.

Maryland press has given Illini fits in past years. Hats off to coaching staff and player execution.

Guyton was better. Working on health, conditioning. Needs stronger handles, especially left hand.

Almost every game in the Big Ten will be tough, this one at Mich. State is no exception, but I think we match up well. Size wise they have been a solid front line but not much taller than us. We were helped out that one of their starting front line, Alexander at 6-3, 9.6 points and just over 4 rebounds is out today and for the season. They still have Van Slooten, 6-3, 14 plus and 6 rebounds, who has given us fits in the past. Plus Blair at 6-1, 12.6 a game and 7 rebounds. So still a tough match up on the boards.

Much like us they have balanced scoring, both guards Jones and Brown average in double figures. I look for them to have trouble with our guards and doubt they have played against anyone like Destiny Jackson yet. Much like our game against Maryland a lot of great individual match ups today, stay out of foul trouble, win the rebound battle and should be another close game.

One fun note Kendall Bostic for those who listen on the radio, played one year at Michigan State.

Another fun note. During the game last year Grace Van Slooten tipped the ball out of bounds. The ref didnt see it and awarded the ball back to MSU. GVS ran over to the ref and told him No No I touched it last! Should have been on every highlight reel!
