Why yes , yes you were................just poking some fun at you in a friendly way........I figured with the beloved's 2 wins and wiskey's 2 losses that that was enough ammo for us to slip past them......

I want to go into Kohl Center and tan their arse's big time........I really really really do......................JMHO

I got some warm fuzzies by seeing loosier STATE with 53 votes and the real loosiers with ZERO votes.....

i find it confusing that nu and nebby both got zero votes as an earlier poster posted.........both deserve some votes ....JMHO..

Always good to be a "Top 10 Team," regardless of what anybody says! Even though MSU is only receiving one vote in the poll, I think a win in East Lansing (hopefully combined with some chaos elsewhere) could move us up a few spots, too! FWIW, here are the teams ahead of us this week in action in some matchups to keep an eye on:

#4 Kansas at Kansas State (KU a 4.5-point favorite) ... Monday at 8:00 pm on ESPN
#8 Arizona at Utah ... Thursday at 7:00 pm on Pac-12 Network
#6 Tennessee at Texas A&M ... Saturday at 7:00 pm on ESPN
#8 Arizona at Colorado ... Saturday at 9:00 pm on ESPN
I think KU loses at KState, after coming off a 70% fg performance and destroying Houston. only 1 true day off, i think they play tired and flat and no way they shoot as good - however, this is why i don't wager on games, 50/50 loses money

Sacraig is correct. I believe asymptote is actually an old old wooden ship used in the Civil War era.
50 Loyalty Vocab points....and we keep questioning it, I'm gonna have another coffee and give him 75.

Hate to say it, but I feel a little overatted at 10.
This is how I see it. Our resume is probably closer to top 15 or top 20. Our ceiling (let's say the way we were playing pre-suspension) is borderline top 5. Our floor has been more like a fringe top 25 team, but that has been much more rare than the other ones.

But more importantly here is WHY we are #10 right now, and it is just a product of the teams around us shuffling at specific times.

- We were ranked #24 when we went to Rutgers on Saturday 12/2. Everybody thought RU was way better then, and we destroyed them. We jumped from #24 to #20 on Monday.
- The following week, we beat #11 FAU on a neutral floor and looked DAMN good doing it ... two absolute studs on our team had 30+ points, and the other guys stepped up. We lost a good game in Knoxville to #17 Tennessee (but they had been in the top 10 before some losses), and we still net gained 4 spots to #16. If we had beat Tennessee, we would have skyrocketed.
- The following week, we sat back and watched teams lose while we waited until Sunday night to handily beat Colgate. Simply by not messing up, we moved up to #13. Now we are officially a "borderline top 10 team" in the minds of the CBB world.
- We then went into Braggin' Rights not really knowing how bad Mizzou was, and we embarrassed them in a rivalry game on a neutral floor while some other teams lost. Ba-da-da-DA! Up to #11. This is where we earned our REPUTATION (i.e., baseline) moving forward, IMO.

Since then?
- Beat FDU. #11 --> #9.
- Beat Northwestern, lose at #1 Purdue. #9 --> #10.
- Beat Michigan State, lose to Maryland. #10 --> #14.
- Beat Michigan and Rutgers. #14 --> #10.
- Lose at Northwestern, beat Indiana. #10 --> #14.
- Beat Ohio State and Nebraska. #14 --> #10.

I know it's just an aggregate, but your "average pollster" seems to have decided we looked like a top 10 team around the beginning of Big Ten play, and they are just bumping us up and down with wins/losses based on that. Our "reputation" is probably better than our record right now ... but it's actually pretty easy to make excuses for our losses if you are an Illini apologist, haha (using the current top 25 rankings below).

- Lost to #7 Marquette in a close early season game. Marquette is currently on a 6-game winning streak.
- Lost at #6 Tennessee in a good game. Other than a slip-up vs. South Carolina, the Vols have looked great lately, winning 5 of 6 and beating #10 Kentucky at Rupp.
- Lost at #2 Purdue in a relatively close game WITHOUT Shannon (who is obviously now back and a relevant factor in our ranking). Since then, Purdue has won 8 of 9 games, including at #6 Wisconsin.
- Lost to Maryland at home WITHOUT Shannon. This one is the only "bad loss," and it frankly is the reason that we have to keep climbing BACK into the top 10. However, I am guessing most pollsters think we survive that game if TSJ is with us? Just a guess.
- Lost at Northwestern in OT. Same thing happened to #2 Purdue, can't knock us too much for that one.

The knock on us is the lack of marquee wins. We will have our chances later in the year with Wisconsin and Purdue, but if we keep stacking wins, we'll move up regardless of how highly we "feel" we should be ranked. We pretty much established ourselves as a "top 10-15 team" at the end of December, and we have not won or lost enough to move out of that range.
