The game he got injured he continued to play, after a fall like he took, sports medicine should have pulled him and done a baseline comparison test before returning to play.
And you have all the data that a conclusion like that would be based on?

Why would I have a pre concussion baseline data set? Sports medicine 100% has one on every athlete. It's a test done with several different metrics, but mostly done at rest. Therefore if an athlete suffers any severe incident, it should be standard to pull the athlete from competition, until a comparative test is performed. There is no rule that says this has to be done but as the steward of the student athlete's future this should be taken more seriously. This also can be said about how Ayo's season ended last year, he suffered a concussion returned to play, was struck a forcefully on the top of the head in the Ohio St game, and never seemed to recover.

Not exactly sure how to read this but it doesn’t seem positive from Hawkins dad.
From a dad perspective I get it, maybe sounds like somebody taking a shot it your kid.

From a journalist perspective, that’s news. A guy who has been a regular starter and super important piece relegated to the last guy of the regular rotation off the bench.

Life is not binary, both perspectives can be true.

CoHawk is a big part of this team..........BU is helping him even if Cohawk looks at it as a demotion and acts immature and sulks and pouts for a spell...

Hopefully CoHawk takes it as a challenge and responds with inspired play and a more mature approach to his Illini career......

Nothing is guaranteed with BU......you work hard and make plays and you get tick......You continue to make silly plays , foul incessantly , cry on every call against you and you will find a place on the bench as less talented players get your minutes........I wonder how CoHawk will react ...I really really do....

Granted it was against an inferior opponent in a blow out, but I thought we saw how he will react.

true enough ......but for a college age kid that reaction could and probably would be different after some careful thinking and self examination....That's the part about Cohawk I'm worried about .....Can he see the big picture ????............BU has had praise for CoHawk since he got here......He really praised him for his defense on Harper and Murray .....But BU has got to pull the reins in on CoHawk before his play and emotions get to become more habitual than they are right now......

I can see CoHawk really turning it on for the rest of the season..........
I can see continue to sulk , pout and make silly plays when he gets back on the court...............
I can see CoHawk get so frustrated that he transfers at season's end......................

Now , all of those choices are strictly opinions of what COULD happen.....

I really don't have a clue what he does..........I hope it's the first option , but only CoHawk can answer that.............................JMHO

here's a nice video while we contemplate what CoHawk does.......................

Lieb's touch put-back was pretty impressive and I loved that he attacked the rim for his dunk was surprising. For Podz, he had several stints early in the game and he just looked like he hesitated, just a split second. Then he drove to the hoop and threw up a bit of a circus shot (that almost went in) but seemed like an aggressive and confident drive. When he made the two free throws I hoped seeing the ball go in would help him out. Then he go the dunk, swung out then back, looked like "oh yeah, I remember this!" As soon as he stepped into the next shot I knew it was good. If that game had been 2 minutes longer he would have hit double figures. I hope the confidence carries forward.
TCB13, you are completely right!! Me and his mother felt like he was squeezing to much early, with his 3 attempts at (3pointers that he barely missed) Then when he went back in towards the end of game, I yelled "Just f'kin drive" He drove did a spin move and got fouled. Looked at his mother and I said we are "all good" he is playing and not thinking or worrying about getting pulled) and like you said he went off.. I also laugh, because you said, exactly what my son said after the game. He said Dad if there would have been a few minutes left I could have easily had 15points in this game.

Love it. Can’t wait to watch your son develop over the next few years

Personally, I am glad to see a post from Mr. Podz.
In this era of the portal, many of us worry about the mindset of players when they’re not getting tick they have been accustomed to getting their entire careers. Let’s be honest, any player on the IL roster has been ‘the man’ for many years prior to coming to the O&B. I see Podz as a freak athlete, super competitive, can fill it up when he gets going, and on and on. I see a bright future for BP. I’ve been hoping he, and Mr and Mrs Podz, have not been frustrated with limited minutes to this point.
Good to see Podz get meaningful minutes, gain confidence, and have success. Here’s to hoping Podz, and the rest of the roster, is in a good place regarding their long term future with our beloved.

I agree with his father. It is fine for us as “fans” to speculate and talk about who plays and who does not, but that tweet is public. Is showing Coleman Hawkins some “ tough love” and coaching something that needs to be aired by our so called beat writers? It was one game, against a team we knew we were going to kill, Underwood clearly was sending a message to Coleman. Does Jeremy Warner need the “hits” so bad he needs to post basically just a jab at Hawkins? I don’t know, if this is 5 games from now, sure we have an issue and Coleman is or is not an Illini in the future, but one game? I bet money he plays lights out against Mizzou and I bet BBV keeps getting better also.

Should Plummer be upset he did not see the floor in the second half? It would be nice if our coaches could just coach and see how it works with out all the drama.
Plummer didn’t see the floor cause he had some early fouls. That’s how I saw it anyway. And we didn’t need him. If it was a closer game he would have played regardless

1. I am not sure why you are saying "so called" here. It's literally his job.
2. Werner posted a fact on a topic of interest. As a reporter and writer, that's his job. I don't see how that is a jab at Hawkins.
3. What drama? The coaches played one kid over another in a game that is only a half a step above an exhibition. How is that drama?

At the end of the day, playing big time basketball (whether in the NCAA or NBA) means players are going to be subject to media scrutiny. It's part of the game. If they can't handle it, that's their own problem to overcome.

You and others might watch reactions on the bench more than I do, but I really didn’t notice him sulking and pouting. Sure maybe frustrated when he was pulled, but that could be as much frustrated in himself for his play that led to him being pulled as it was frustrated in being pulled. I can guarantee you that he will make other silly plays — he’s still learning.

I think Hawk will be fine. I think his play late in last game showed something. Yes, he’ll have hiccups, but he’ll be an important contributor moving forward this year. Will he eventually transfer? I have no idea but I hope not.

I’ve brought this up recently, and it isn’t aimed at you, but I think some posters get carried away assessing players and predicting their futures. And then when the players don’t reach that, some of those same posters put it on the players. Much of the hype around Hawk going into this season was ridiculous considering he had played less than 160 minutes and hadn’t started a game. Then he has 3 good games and people are ready to vote him first team all-conference. Yes, he has some great physical tools, but let the kid play and grow before labeling him a star or a failure. Again, this isn’t aimed at you pruman.

Sad thing is I see the hype surrounding RJ getting ready to have the same kind of trajectory as the Hawk hype. After 70 minutes of college ball and a good game against a bad team in mop up time, I saw one poster predicting a Keegan Murray type jump for RJ next year. Well at least people are giving him until next year and not predicting it for second half of this season.

i didn't take your post as a slam on me .....And I hope you don't take my post as a slam on CoHawk.....I really like him and his enthusiasm for the Illini program.......But you have to acknowledge he wears his emotions on his sleeve and it's gotten to the point where some refs might call fouls on him that are not fouls.......he has to learn to play within himself as he has all the tools to be a major contributor to the beloved........The art of understanding the mind of a college athlete is an inexact science.....what makes them have a big jump in production or even a drop in production.....But I trust BU will help him figure it out whether it means more time , less time or the dreaded treadmill torture approach........

My post was only intended to give MY prospective on CoHawk and his importance to the Illini....................I sincerely hope he gets his s**t together as we need him this year and the remaining years he has in college....And again, I didn't take an offense to your post.......I really really didn't........

As far as RJ I think he will be a star here ........When ??......no clue , but he has the coordination and talent to achieve that level....JMHO , and I realize he has had limited tick , but he seems to have a high BB IQ as witnessed by his passes in the last game and his ability to rebound offensively and hit the 3 point shots......

That's what fans do. Go on any team forum (not just ours) and fans get carried away. Obviously, not every kid that shows glimpses of talent is going to be a star.

I agree Hawk would probably be well served to rein in his reactions on the court. Showing emotion is one thing, turning to the bench to taunt is another thing. And I think we are in agreement as to the importance of Hawk. Team will be better as he moves his game forward — and we both expect that to happen.

I’m high on RJ too. Have to like what we’ve seen so far.

I realize that. And it is good that fans are excited about the players. I’m just saying that if a fan is measuring the success of a player based upon his or her unrealistic expectations, rather than getting down on a player maybe they should reassess their ability to predict how good a player will be or how quickly he’ll get there. But I realize it will continue to happen. Everyone has their hot takes, and want to be the first to predict something.

Had the chance to meet all of team at Body n' Sole on Sunday. I took my daughter, we're about an hour away, she's in 8th grade and opted not to play basketball this year but had played in the past few years in school and on a travel team - she's still plays travel softball as well as softball, volleyball and track in school. She keeps a chair in the hallway closet and drags it down to my desk when the Illini are on - means the world to me! so I thought it would be neat for her to get to see some players up close.

I don't know if you're actually a parent, good for you if you are and you come here and potentially face all the irrational criticism your son might receive and keep a level head about it - but I mention the meeting Sunday because I was a college male once, played baseball so I relate (a little) to being an athlete and the peer group mentality that comes with being on a team. My parents, in my opinion, did a great job raising me, but the entirety of the group was respectful, made eye contact with everyone that came through, and while we waited for the line to start filtering through I didn't hear one inappropriate comment or anything I would have been embarrassed to have my daughter hear. I don't feel confident that I would have conducted myself the same at that age! Kudos to all of them, and the people who raised them.

Ok I just see if different than you especially for College athletes, but your certainly entitled to your opinion.
