Good morning all.................hope today finds you in a positive frame of mind as much as I am in over the last 3 days of glorious wins in Illini FB and last night roasting of the # 9 Ducks.......it , without a doubt , has been the best medicine that good ole pru could ever have had.........

Talk about a true TEAM effort on a late night for all of us Central time zoner's to enjoy and savor.........the lads unleashed a barrage of athleticism and skill upon the ducks and they withered like a fart in a whirlwind............total arse kickin and taking names , as we used to say in the Cro-Magnum past era of my life...........Release the hounds and watch them hunt , and hunt they did.....

They really really really did...........

To all my Illini brothers and sisters here who have shown love and support in my 3 + weeks absence from the board I say thank you from the bottom of my O & B heart............To those of you who have posted about your trials and tribulations regarding health problems , I offer you the same support level as I have received........it means a lot to me to have that support so I want to share that support with you too.........

Thank you Jake & DGL for keeping us in the game in the 1st half........As BU stated so too the point last night , you 2 Illini won the game for us , so the rest of the Illini could come out and lay the wood to the yellow and green horde in the second half ......

The second half performance by the beloved was a masterpiece in how to break down an opponent's will to compete.......Last night's game will be remembered by ole pru as poetry in motion with so many highlight plays to witness.........

"They're not that good." A quote from Dana regarding the Illini offense. I noticed at the end-of-game handshake, Dana basically gave a proverbial shake and moved on. Let's save this one, BU and staff.
I took it as Illinois is good but not good enough to explain a 32 point loss at home. He’s not wrong. As much as this was a joy to watch, it’s not our norm nor should it be expected. I say that because there are going to be fans that expect that to be our level of play now and will throw a fit if we shoot like our season average. We’d win every game from here on out including the national championship if we played like that every game.

This.

So many people have this want or need to feel aggrieved. Not everything is a personal shot or necessarily meant disrespectfully.

Been watching Illini basketball since the early 60's, and I honestly don't ever remember the Illini beating a top ten ranked team so handily and on their own floor...last night was about as impressive win (esp on the road) that anyone could have imagined...I'm sure there's some not so stellar games that are yet to come this year....but boy...last night had to make the college basketball world take notice

We have to give Brad and his staff credit for having the team ready for a tough road game. Traveling across multiple time zones and playing on a hostile floor is tough but whatever the staff did to get us up for the game - it worked!

This is the Illini team we have been looking forward to, finally living up to the lofty expectations.

Yeah, I think you nailed it.

I said this in the game thread, but our leading scorer was Tre White with the quietest 20 point game I can remember.

He was also our leading rebounder with 11.
Based off the Louisville film (and that entire team's dynamic), I was worried Tre would be a bit of a chucker, but he's done a magnificent job taking what the defense gives him and, as the announcers mentioned yesterday, cutting to the basket at the right time. He has such a great skill set to complement our more 3-ball heavy players, putting pressure in the area inside the 3-point arc all the way to the rim and snagging timely long rebounds.

Can I sign up for that somewhere?

I did. Only once. In late 1989. It was a mirage.

This time it's not.

Enjoy every minute of it. :illinois:

Recall thinking in spring 1989 after the Final 4 that next year's team could go as far (or dare to dream, further) if Nick returned. Returning 3 starters off the Final 4 team (Gill, Bardo, Anderson), with two McD AAs (Liberty and Deon) replacing the two graduating starters (KB, Lowell). Quality bench with Smith getting plenty of minutes, Kaufman providing offensive punch, and Jones/Small/Kpedi providing a physical presence.

Wasn't meant to be, with Nick going pro (wasn't as obvious then as it would be today), Deon and Smith sitting out (i.e., 3 of top six players in my envisioned rotation going poof), and the NCAA cloud hanging over the staff and program the entirety of the 1989-90 season. Still remember trudging to a newspaper box in my first year of law school to get the news about Nick, and slow drip torture of NCAA investigation news the rest of the year. Fork Iowa.

The next postgame thread that doesn't whine about the announcers for being anything short of "Brian Barnhart but on TV" will be the first.

Hey guys, if we seamlessly transition from whining about "ACCSPN" to "SECSPN" maybe some introspection is required! Or - just enjoy the best run of Illini sports in most of our lives without obsessively searching for grievances, my god.
They were fine but I do miss Benetti. The absolute best.

Announcers: say one nice thing about the other team
Weirdos on Loyalty: "Can you believe how pro-other team the announcers were!?"

My dude, these guys were singing the praises of Jake and DGL. They're allowed to also talk about the other team.
lol. And this is exactly why Kirk Herbstreit left Columbus for Nashville and then, when he decided to move back to Ohio, ended up no closer than Cincinnati.

Speaking of Oregon's former basketball floor and not being able to see the forest for the trees.

Please try to enjoy this golden era of Illini sports, my friends!

We played really well, but I think we shell-shocked Oregon with that run in the second half that put us up 16 before the timeout. Took two minutes of the second half and after that, the defensive lapses started to pile up for them. They did make a mini-run to go from 21 down to 12 down but we snuffed that out in a hurry.

I also thought we had some incredible defensive sequences where Oregon was running some really crisp and impressive motion, but we were there every time, barely keeping up, but keeping up all the same and they'd end up taking another free-throw line jumper or a contested layup. Bozwell does a better job of fighting around screens than I've seen an Illini player do in some time. Terrence was maybe better at it, but was also long enough that he could go under a screen and still defend the three. Boz just seems to understand the positioning concepts better.

Always thought Dana Altman was a class act... until he said "they're a good offensive team but they're not that good" which I'm adding to my fuel. Keeping my receipts.
We aren’t THAT good. Or at least we hadn’t shown efficiency like that before. We had an incredible game against a tough opponent. Hats off to the team and hopefully we can continue to improve and thrive. But won’t see me putting money on us having another game that dominant against a team of that caliber. We were hitting on all cylinders and their defense wasn’t great at times.

We got a season high from a guy people have been clamoring to have pretty much glued to the bench. We got a career high against a P5 opponent from DGL in essentially one half. We got 12 points in 11 minutes from a guy who had 14 points going into the game, and people here have been wondering why he’s been getting the minutes he has been. We’re a very good team and hopefully that game means we’re taking the next step. But I don’t expect to see that kind of offensive explosion again this season. We scored 66 against NW in OT and 64 against Tenn. so what happened in those games if we are indeed THAT good?

I actually liked this iteration of the floor. Not nearly as oppressive as past iterations.

I saw GFR at the old Kiel center in St. Louis soon after this album came out........their warm up band was Iron Butterfly......wowsa....

my old band played around 10-12 songs from those 2 bands in our 3 set program........great memories.....it really really is......
Yep, I've been playing this song since 1974 in the various bands I've been in. A classic that doesn't get the attention of American Band or Footstompin' Music . . .
