Rewatched the game this morning. Insane display of shooting.

My biggest thought, the officiating didn't get any better with age. Some of the worst calls I've seen last night. Two of the fouls on KJ were flat out ridiculous. Could tell Morez was dejected, he's going to learn quick how the whistle goes for freshman on the road in the B1G.

I'm not sure how DJ Carstensen gets work in the B1G. I wouldn't let that guy officiate my daughters ymca games.
I said this last year in the Iowa game thread, but I was at Carver-Hawkeye Arena and sitting around several Iowa fans. Carstensen and Earl Walton were two of the officials. Walton made a "Tom Rucker classic" call where he was in front of the benches and called some sort of foul in the opposite post against Iowa. The Iowa fans and I all looked at each other with these massive "WTF" looks on our faces. We all just kind of nodded and said, "Yep, Carstensen and Walton - that's going to happen."

So it definitely isn't just Illini fans who wonder how DJ Carstensen continues to work Division 1 men's basketball games.

Recall thinking in spring 1989 after the Final 4 that next year's team could go as far (or dare to dream, further) if Nick returned. Returning 3 starters off the Final 4 team (Gill, Bardo, Anderson), with two McD AAs (Liberty and Deon) replacing the two graduating starters (KB, Lowell). Quality bench with Smith getting plenty of minutes, Kaufman providing offensive punch, and Jones/Small/Kpedi providing a physical presence.

Wasn't meant to be, with Nick going pro (wasn't as obvious then as it would be today), Deon and Smith sitting out (i.e., 3 of top six players in my envisioned rotation going poof), and the NCAA cloud hanging over the staff and program the entirety of the 1989-90 season. Still remember trudging to a newspaper box in my first year of law school to get the news about Nick, and slow drip torture of NCAA investigation news the rest of the year. Fork Iowa.
I had the same thoughts back then. I had a fellow Illini neighbor for a couple years around then. We talked about in my driveway. I don't want to look back any longer.

Been watching Illini basketball since the early 60's, and I honestly don't ever remember the Illini beating a top ten ranked team so handily and on their own floor...last night was about as impressive win (esp on the road) that anyone could have imagined...I'm sure there's some not so stellar games that are yet to come this year....but boy...last night had to make the college basketball world take notice

That’s because no team, in the history of the AP poll has done that. Last night’s win was the largest road win against an AP top ten team… ever!

I've heard that DJ went to high-school in Iowa City. He was a classmate of one of my friends. So no wonder that he has bias against Illinois.

Sad to say it, but it’s hard to believe Booth played nearly 20 min/game for a P5-level team last year. I know ND was no good, but still. Kid has all the size and athletic ability you’d want, but can’t put it together on the court.

We get it. You think Ben is trash. BU sees him in practice everyday and he’s paid the big bucks to make the best decisions for his team. Luckily for us , and unfortunately for you, he’s our coach, and you are not. Try to enjoy an amazing, a*#- whooping , road victory over a top ten conference opponent.
As coach said last night, this is about the time Marcus started to take off last year.

Double digit road victories vs. top 10 opponents in the last 25 years for the Illini:

2025: W 109-77 at #9 Oregon (ILL ranked #22)
2021: W 83-68 at #10 Duke (ILL ranked #6)
2021: W 76-53 at #2 Michigan (ILL ranked #4)
2013: W 85-74 at #10 Gonzaga (ILL ranked #13)

So yeah ... Brad has 3 of the 4, haha.
Ahhhh…that Gonzaga game was a fun one.

Good morning all.................hope today finds you in a positive frame of mind as much as I am in over the last 3 days of glorious wins in Illini FB and last night roasting of the # 9 Ducks.......it , without a doubt , has been the best medicine that good ole pru could ever have had.........

Talk about a true TEAM effort on a late night for all of us Central time zoner's to enjoy and savor.........the lads unleashed a barrage of athleticism and skill upon the ducks and they withered like a fart in a whirlwind............total arse kickin and taking names , as we used to say in the Cro-Magnum past era of my life...........Release the hounds and watch them hunt , and hunt they did.....

They really really really did...........

To all my Illini brothers and sisters here who have shown love and support in my 3 + weeks absence from the board I say thank you from the bottom of my O & B heart............To those of you who have posted about your trials and tribulations regarding health problems , I offer you the same support level as I have received........it means a lot to me to have that support so I want to share that support with you too.........

Thank you Jake & DGL for keeping us in the game in the 1st half........As BU stated so too the point last night , you 2 Illini won the game for us , so the rest of the Illini could come out and lay the wood to the yellow and green horde in the second half ......

The second half performance by the beloved was a masterpiece in how to break down an opponent's will to compete.......Last night's game will be remembered by ole pru as poetry in motion with so many highlight plays to witness.........

I'm getting closer to my home.....................I really really am.....................
After last night's performance we are going to have to "El Cid" you to your sofa. We'll get someone to duct tape you in front of the tv. We can leave 1 arm free so you can eat munchies and take a drink but that's it. It's a Foley Tube for you young man for the duration of the game.
Welcome back.

I definitely agree with the sentiment; but at the same time, this sounds intense and kinda extreme. lol

As a fan I wish I had some sort of "view behind the curtain" on what the heck happens over the Christmas/New Years break.

I'm not supposed to talk about this, but with NIL it's a new era, so what the heck.

Christmas break is when Luther Head returns to campus, announces he's paying for everyone's scholarship, and the full roster is transformed into Guys Who Want To Be Here (TM).

Morez is a Beast! Getting better every game, and free throws looking a lot better as well.
I'd like to see him embrace the Beast even more. Twice a game he goes straight up, get bowled into, and gives up an and-one. I'd rather see him hard foul and send them to the line.

Got them at +11000 right after Will Riley committed
I had to have a buddy get mine for me. I lost some value as I kept urging him to get it while he was actually in Las Vegas, but he waited a few days later and got it when he was in Laughlin. By then the odds had changed a bit. 🫤
