17-20 from the FT line for Hill. Had 32 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. What a beast.

Great job by Mav as well. He played with those four fouls from the second half through 3OT. That's something he should be commended for...for not fouling out.

Phenomenal job by Mav to stay in the game with 4 fouls. That was crucial as was his offensive production. JCL is gonna be a star. MH...wow.

The kids left it all out there tonight and fought through some unfortunate plays. They sure had me worried for a while. A road W in the B1G is hard to come by no matter who you're playing.

That was excruciating but I will take the win. Finally rebounded in the OT's except for Khalid Lewis' Brain...t.

About my earlier post, Hill finished with 34 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists. Still unreal. Great game from him, especially from the FT line.

I am beginning to really like Mav. He will help alot next year.

Lewis makes some mistakes, but he just offers so much more than JT. Better defense and at least a threat to score on offense and more athleticism. That foul they called on him to end the regulation on was pure bull !!!!! He probably did about as well as you can staying in front of Sanders. That kid is fast as

Worst game for Kendrick in a long time but he did rebound and without those we wouldn't have won.

JCL will leave here with some serious records.

Good to get a win against all odds. :illinois:

Proud of our team. That was pure guts. I know Rutgers is not at all good (understatement), but boy did we need that. Hill despite a few miscues was a man. Maverick too and Nunn was a monster on the boards on an off shooting night. I will take it.

Thanks to Sanders for missing his 2d free throw....else this thread would be full of burning dumpsters and tipped portalet gifs.

Yes they did!
I just hope no one gives Groce credit for these kids continuing to give it their all.

Also have to give credit to Nunn for playing with an injured hip and still managed to haul down double digit rebounds. Hope his injury is not severe, since he was limping.

Guys, I'm gonna be honest. I forgot there was a game on tonight. Just kinda where we are this season. But hey... Good stuff beating Rutgers?

JCL's 6 three's gives him 53 on the season. Just passed Dee and McCamey on the all Frosh 3pt. list to move into #5. Next on the list is #4--Keene w/57.

Wheeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!

If we're not getting quantity of wins, we might as well play for entertainment value. And this one was a doozie.

If they weren't trying, everyone would jump on Groce for "losing" the team, but since they are trying, we can't give him credit?

It was the worst Big Ten game I have ever ever seen. The quality of play somehow managed to be worse than the 39-33 PSU debacle. There is no excuse for us to be that close vs a team that low-caliber.

But man, I was entertained.
I disagree. That PSU game was WAAAAY worse. :hand:

I set my DVR for an extra 30 minutes before leaving for work this morning and it ended right at the start of 3OT.

As much as I want to bash the state of the program, I can't right now. Good effort. Way to gut one out on the road. Wish that FT% would've shown up against WISC last week, haha.

Who knows? Maybe this sparks something against Iowa.

1. Wow! Well it may not have been the very best basketball ever as far as quality, but the quantity was certainly there! Considering how shorthanded each team was, the players on both teams deserve credit for playing hard until the end.

2. Both teams fought hard, but I did think that the Illini showed more mental toughness. With all that has gone on, it would have been easy to stumble and let this one get away on the road when Rutgers got big leads, but the Illini fought back each time to stay in the game.

3. Malcolm Hill obviously was the big engine for the game, as usual. Not just the 34 points, but also the 14 rebounds were crucial to at least keep the rebounding margin within reasonable limits.

4. JCL showed that he is the real deal. He is going to be a star for the Illini in the years to come. There are few things that can match a great shooter, and he looks like he is going to be special.

5. Mav is becoming a legend! He really is continuing to get better this season. He is not a great defender, but he is becoming a real weapon on offense. Hopefully his teammates will start getting even more out of his abilities by getting him the ball more often.

6. Nunn was hurting rather obviously, and it affected his shooting, but not his spirit. Not only did he make the crucial three, but he took down 13 rebounds with a bad hip.

7. Lewis has not had too many positive observations this season, but 8 assists with only one turnover deserves a tip of the hat. And he made some key free throws.

8. Sanders is good. Really good. He belongs in the NBA. Now. Before we play them again. Laurent helped them a bunch as well.

9. There haven't been too many positives so far this season. Tonight was one. A win against Iowa would go a long way towards easing the pain.

Go Illini!

Definite improvement from Mav regarding the fouls. Played a lot of minutes with 4 fouls. In the past, he may have gotten 30 seconds more before the 5th.

Credit for them not giving up! After that 3 at the buzzer, it would have been easy to say WTF!

He is in rarified air. I really like seeing his name in with the likes of those around him on that list.
