Who is Clayton Jones?

I think it's Verdell's little brother.

This game was very encouraging. I loved what I saw from Lucas and JCL finally had a few go in. I'd like to see Thorne convert some more and I think he will as he gets in game shape and gets into a rhythm.

And that Sampson kid? I've seen Rob McColley mention his name, but this was the first time I've actually seen him. Looks like an extremely raw version of Leron.

Big Mike Thorne with a double-double 10 and 10. I know it was a D-II team but nice to see some shots go down for JCL and Aaron Jordan, and nice to see TeJon Lucas get some time.

The team scores 112 and Malcom Hill has 3...kind of a weird stat.

It's a good sign the team can score and win as a cohesive unit without his great production.
The kind of production many thought we can get this year with healthy depth. I mean, not 112 every night but solid scoring across the board. I think its the games where Malcolm has to go for 30 + for us to win will be the games we are in trouble.

He missed a lot of bunnies, or he would have had 20-10. He's our best rim protector, and I'm already seeing the weight dropping off from just a week ago. Mav and Thorne are a dangerous combo.

That is what a POY does. We will need Malcolm to bail us out in a few games. Nothing wrong with that, but we will have problems if we need him to consistently bail us out.

I know they're DII, but that was fun. Quick observations:

1. TJL is gonna be exciting. Maybe not this year against big boys, but so much to look forward to.

2. Really felt like high effort on loose balls and rebounds tonight - even with the game out of hand. Hill diving on the floor, JCL steals, our own guys fighting each other for rebounds. I just liked the energy after all the complaints of low effort the last two games.

3. Mac and Tracey continue to impress beyond my wildest expectations

4. JCL will need more dimensions next year, but I'm ok with "best 3pt shooter in the BIG" for this year

5. Thorne. Ugh. Good news is, his positioning and footwork seemed good, just couldn't hit a basket. In a real game, I'd like to think when you're 0 for 47 on three footers, you start passing out of the double team. Hopefully he was being told "just keep shooting" to get the rust off.

Lastly, I'd like to see us play McKendree 7 or 8 times next season.

Nice to see the offense explode, even with Malcolm having a bad night. Defense still seems like an issue though.

It's not as bad as you think. Part of it was winning by 47. We were still +10 in rebounding, McKendree had 16 turnovers which is 10 more than we had, shot 25% from 3 and under 33% from the field overall.

Is that camera shoulder mounted? Why not a tripod? I'm almost motion sick after watching 20 minutes of that rocking motion.

The team is improving.

Hard to say based on that competition, but definitely was nice to see TeJon DJ and Jordan get some good minutes. Finke also looked quite good. Hopefully Thorne just shaking off rust. Nice to see Hill have to do so little.

Tempo tonight was a lot better. A whole lot. As any number of people have observed, its fun to watch TJL push it up the floor.

Defense looked quite a bit more energetic to me as well. Especially in the first half. After the first two games, I was pretty nervous about the D. After tonight, I'm only nervous. Because, after all, they were D2.

Seeing the variety of scoring was wonderful.

Fletch's jacket was fun !

Man, Michaels can shoot the ball ! Think he would be catalyst type player for us, but he's a stud for McKendree. Nice stroke, smooth as silk.

Looking forward to Friday

Go figure that in the game we score our most points in several seasons is the one where Malcolm only gets 3.

First and foremost, we did what we were supposed to do against that team. Secondly, Michael shoots the ball really well. He hit some tough, contested shots. Really impressive. Lastly, I know somebody posted their shooting percentages, but they got a fair number of good looks. They missed shots high major teams won't. That's still an issue. Tough to win when you gotta score a bunch cause you're gonna give up a bunch. Overall, very happy. Offensive rhythm was great.
