This may be a silly question, but this is one heck of a free fall, which I do believe has a smattering of a Michigan and a Minnesota L. How far away are they from closing in on the bubble?
I still like their resume better than ours to be totally honest.

A bit inflammatory I guess, but Marquette, N-Virginia and @MSU are three wins better than our best.

Kinda goes back to my point from the other day, KenPom, seeding, AP rankings, these are different kinds of questions. Never in a million years would I fill out an AP ballot with Wisconsin above us, if I were a bookmaker in Vegas I probably wouldn't make Wisconsin a favorite on a neutral floor, but the resume is not "what have you done for me lately".

Very far away. They're 6-6 in Q1 games, 5-3 in Q2, 11-9 in Q1/2 combined with no Q3/Q4 losses.

In some ways, their resume is still better than ours.

We're 4-5 in Q1 games, 4-1 in Q2, 8-6 combined with no Q3/Q4 losses.

They aren't really close to the bubble, but the committee had them below us by a spot before our Maryland win and their Iowa loss. We are atleast a seed or 2 up on them now.

Would love if the Illini can get up to a 3 seed, these next 6 games will go a long way to determine the Illini's seed which goes a long way to the chances of making a run. 4 out of 6 games are theoretically games they should win (but no gimmes, not bad teams and of the "resume padding" variety if you can secure W's), and the other two are tossups. Just comes down to the cumulative effect of how they do in those 6 games... then secure a double bye and likely avoid those "no good win, but could be a bad loss" type of game in the Big Ten Tournament and go from there.

Breaks the 6 week 10-14 streak

Jan 1st: #9
Jan 8th: #10
Jan 15th: #14
Jan 22nd: #10
Jan 29th: #14
Feb 5th: #10
Feb 12th: #14
Feb 19th: #12
And we were #13 and #11 in the final two polls of December, too! Other than 2005 being at #1 for so long, I cannot remember an Illini team that has stayed in such a tight range (#9 to #14) for nearly two months. 2001 was close, as it spent so much time in the back half of the top 10, but it had a decent swing of #11 to #3 over the course of the season.

Has to be one of the quickest top 6 to out of the rankings in recent memory.
Bama once went from #1 to unranked in the space of about a month during the conference season.

I feel like the days of the slick scumbag recruiter who can't coach his way out of a paper bag are leaving us. Mark Gottfried, a nation turns its lonely eyes to you.

MSU this year, maybe. Just spitballing.
Just a preseason poll refresher (we were 25)

7 of these teams are not currently ranked. Overall, much better than some of their totally non-biased 🙄 preseason polls in the past.
