crazy we only moved up 4 when Wisc only fell 2. If we had lost, at home, to the worst team in the big ten, we would have fallen waaay more than 2 spots. Voters still don't trust us.

Looking at individual AP voter breakdown (AP voter breakdown), there are a number of voters who moved Wisconsin up significantly this week (e.g., one had Bucky at 15 last week and 4 this week!). A couple others moved them from 13 last week to 8 this week and from 9 to 6. Pretty bizarre. Maybe they voted before Sunday?

Am I alone in thinking winning the BTT is the only way we get to a 3 seed (outside shot at 2)? We won't beat anyone of sufficient quality to move the needle until the BTT and at that time the bracket is basically set. I think we need some help with early losses by Purdue or Wisky but then we lose a chance for a marquee win if we make BTT finale. Really would like to get off 4 seed line.
I think one more win can get us there. And keep in mind we are not necessarily on the 4 seed line now in the eyes of the selection committee. Don't read too much into what the polls say. The committee are much better-informed than most of the AP voters, which is a good thing.

AP = media. They don't watch even half of the games. The link below is a better place to start if you're looking to see where we'll ultimately land (#2, #3 or #4) next Sunday.

As many have pointed out on here, we've gone 4-1 since these preliminary seeds were released a couple of weeks ago.

Andy Katz, as usual, bullish on the Big Ten, with these two teams in particular.

8. Illinois (15): The Illini finished a wild season and got the No. 1 seed in the Big Ten by beating Iowa late Sunday night. This team could get to New Orleans.

14. Iowa (23): Do not sleep on the Hawkeyes. Iowa has all the pieces to make a deep run.

Question: What's everyone stance on Andre right now? Do we need to put him on a short leash? Or do you believe theres no final four run without him being a focal point, so it's give him his minutes and hope for the best?

There were at least three moments in the second half where I yelled some curses at Brad to take him out, and then he'd do something 30 secs later and I'd say...finneeee..leave him in!
Mixed feelings. Good Belo is just incredible and we need him to go far in the postseason.

I would like to see Curbelo BRIEFLY come out of the game (to get re-calibrated, to calm down, whatever) when he starts doing stuff like trying to split defenders and loses the ball, or pouting to the refs instead of getting back on defense. He's not going to get every call and he needs to stop thinking that he will. Has to get stronger and finish plays even when he gets bumped.

Can't blame him for taking open jumpers-- he's got to take them when they're there-- but I still hope he's not going to come into the game and outpace Frazier or Plummer on jump shots.

Wisconsin gets way too much respect from the media. Their resume is not any better than ours. I know they beat Purdue twice but that's it. We beat the same teams they did but did it better. They lost to MSU, Rutgers, and Nebraska at home, didn't have to play @Iowa or @Michigan. Our losses at home were to Purdue and OSU, swept MSU, Michigan, and Iowa. And the most important thing is we beat them head to head by 13 points.

Anyway it doesn't matter all that much we're B1G champs but it is a little frustrating to see them get the respect I don't think they deserve over us.
Overall record matters in the AP poll. We’re the highest 8 loss team besides Texas Tech who has a more impressive resume then us. Wisconsin has 2 fewer losses than us and is 8-3 in Quad 1 to our 6-5. Had we not beaten them in H2H we wouldn’t have been within 4 spots of them.

We’re right about where we should be at. If we win the BTT we would have a shot at 3, if we exit early we may fall into a 5 seed.

Storms last night knocked out power and cable for a while... anyone seen anything about a replay of Iowa game?

Maybe I was too obtuse. I am a big fan of Belo and I don’t criticize or apologize for his screw ups because I enjoy his innovative contributions and his pure love of the game.
Unflappable.
I still believe a healthy Belo will see his jersey in the rafters after his senior year.

As to Belo, I thought he has played well but has shot the ball poorly. You have to take a few TOs with what he brings in ball movement. Last night his shooting was the problem - 4 of 12 IIRC. For the team to be successful going forward, we need him hitting 50% of his shots as he is the one guy on the team that has no problem getting open looks. But think BU has to give him playing time now to get him up to speed for the dance, even if he is not 100%.
WRT having Kofi and DMW on the floor at the end. This was these guys last home game with a conference championship on the line, so I have no problem with having them on the court and putting the ball in their hands to win or lose. The absolutely last thing I would want to happen as the coach is to take out my seniors and have underclassmen cost them their one chance at a conference championship ring.
I think Belo is on the cusp with his 3 point shooting. His misses have been rattling inside the rim before bouncing out.

IMO, win 2 more and we are a 3 seed. If not we are a 4, and that seems to be fair. It is too easy to say we are better than one or 2 teams above us, but there is only one other team with 8 losses in front of us in the polls.

350 division 1 schools. Ranked 14th best out of them all is not exactly being dissed by the media.

I think to me it's the equivalent of our team hitting a 3 pointer vs missing a 3 pointer. It's more boring and conventional, but it's just a score vs a non-score. A missed shot isn't necessarily better than a turnover just because we got the shot off. If he's seeing something that was close to happening and it just missed, how is that worse than Cockburn missing a layup under the basket? As long as he has those moments of a score where there wouldn't be if he was on the bench (either him scoring or assisting someone else) and they're more common than the missed opportunities, he's doing fine.

Wisconsin's pre conference wins are significantly better than anything we have. Had we beaten Arizona, it's a different story. Had we not lost to Cincinnati, it's a different story. We're very biased, but from a macro level, their resume is better than ours.
Not even close. SOS and number of Q1 and Q2 wins is lopsided towards Wisconsin.

Well, one more decent win and no losses might. But there will need to be a loss to SOMEbody without a championship game appearance.

I assume that our game is still late and the result isn't really considered. Not sure if that is still the case.

I don't really understand how Rutgers still isn't ranked.
They're a very hot team right now, but if the rankings are supposed to encompass the whole season, I get it. They'd have 3 fewer wins and 2 more losses than anyone else in the top 25, and efficiency rankings don't have them very high either. #73 in Kenpom, #78 in Torvik, #59 in Sagarin, #76 in NET. I think they're certainly a top 25 team over the last month or so though.

Really?

Here is a composite of every ranking online of college basketball teams: https://masseyratings.com/cb/compare.htm

In none of those is Rutgers a top 25 team. In one of the 51 rankings they're a top 40 team. They aren't an efficient team, they don't overall have good results, they aren't a hot team (2-3 in their last 5), they have yet to have an extended good stretch this season (best 10 game stretch is 6-4), and they are 18-12 overall.

They're still somehow getting votes despite all that.

That's because they are dragged down by the abysmal play they had at the beginning of the season. Show me 25 teams that are better than them, right now (or over the last two months). They'll have a chance to prove it in the tournament, of course.
