God bless everyone involved in the game today. It could have been a moment we collapsed and gave up on the season and each other. Instead we have a program defining win we can show to recruits, and say “come be a part of moments like this.” Even if we don’t make a bowl game, this win could pay dividends for a long long time. Congrats to the boys, and congrats to the faithful!

If you were an Illinois or PSU fan (especially Illini fan) it was thrilling, but I can certainly see why the average fan or media person thought that two teams with 14 attempts to gain 3 yards only being successful three times was a bit underwhelming. I was texting with several friends during the OTs and the comments were more about can either of these teams score rather than how thrilling it was. I loved seeing the Illini win and am proud of the team and how they fought, but it wasn’t exactly stirring football excellence for the average fan.
Good Defense

I know someone else will put together a detailed analysis, all I have to say is our boys fought all damn day and regardless of momentum or a slow start from PSU we fought them off with no passing game and won a marathon game in their house.

This team won a battle we all thought they would lose, and like all of you I’m so f$&@ing happy seeing the boys get a huge win in happy valley.

I'll wait to do an overview of good & bad from the game until at least tomorrow but a couple quick bullet points (that I might reiterate later):

(1) Ryan Walters is doing great things with this defensive unit. What a hire (and amazing that Mizzou was grateful to see him leave.
(2) Was really impressed with the run defense. 62 yards on 29 carries. Wisconsin thrashed them but the run defense performance against UTSA, Purdue, Charlotte, and now PSU is showing some promise.
(3) Just so many injuries. So worried we are going to have a three-peat of going into the NW game and having so many injuries that it severely hampers the team. I am sure I'll miss plenty of names but major pieces missing (either now or earlier) include Epstein, Stikowski, Brown, Hansen, Lowe, Hart, Peters, Witherspoon, Randolph, Woods,

The Walters thing is super baffling considering how awful their defense has been without him. I mean they are horrific.

Let's not forget it took 4 quarters and 9OT to score 20 points. When we've been running all over them, we once again, bafflingly threw multiple passes in a row. Generally to no one. Casey Washington was open long enough to go get a tray of nachos, eat them, and go back for a pop before Peters recognized he was open.

Luckily our defense and OLine was up to the task of bailing out our horrific QB situation. I pray Sitkowski is ok, but please no more BP. He offers us absolutely nothing now or in the future.

Congrats to a team that hasn't given up. Excited to see what B2 can put together in 2-3 years. Walters is an amazing hire, thanks Missouri.

The much maligned Offensive line deserves some credit too.
Well this is NOT the same offensive line that played against Wisci a couple weeks ago. Moved some starters around, went to seven linemen, and committed to the run. Kudos to the entire staff for putting together a winning game plan during the bye. I was impressed after the first quarter. I was impressed at the half. I was impressed at fourth quarter, and the OT's were pure entertainment. The staff, the kids... and how fun was it to see the football walk into the basketball game for some applause tonight?!?! Loved it. It was a good day for the Illini.

What Happened To Chase Brown? Did he get injured?

Looked like a possible concussion late in the overtimes after the back of his slammed into the ground on a tackle. He appeared unconscious for a second too which was scary. Really unfortunate how banged up he has been especially considering how amazing he has been when healthy. Serious question but has there ever been an Illinois RB with multiple 200 yard games in a season?

Quite an enjoyable evening having the conversation starter being, “Did you see that Illinois beat Penn State?”

Boy did I, and let me tell you all about it!! Well, not you fine folks, you were already there.

If you glance at the roster, a lot of the defense that played today will return next season. Key seniors that will be leaving: Carney, Perry, Adams, Gay
Keeping Walters to build upon this success is imperative.

Both Howard and Mendenhall did it; chase would be the third. Still, that is quite impressive!
