I don’t know how you tell which 2 loss team is left out. To me there were more legitimate complaints in a 4 team playoff but with 12 there will be more teams saying they are worthy

Do you penalize a team who losses a conference championship game and give a spot to a team who didn’t qualify?

I feel like a 2-loss team that got their 2nd loss via a championship game should be favored over any 10-2 team that didn't play in one. This applies to teams within a conference. Cross-conference comparisons are tougher. While I think the "SEC is the best" bullcrap is overblown, there's definitely something to be said about going 10-2 and missing out on the SEC championship vs. finishing 11-2 after losing the Big 12 Championship. (Maybe)

Overall, I agree, though, it's gonna be tooooough to pick only 12. But easier than picking only 4.

We have to be a lock for the Citrus Bowl assuming the Big 10 gets all 4 (Ohio State, Indiana, Penn State, Oregon) in the playoff.

Our only competition is Iowa and they went Citrus last year. Citrus won’t take the same team back to back years. The only question is which SEC team that gets left out of the playoff as our opponent, I think it has to be Bama, Ole Miss, or Texas AM
Agreed- even at 3 losses, can't leave out South Carolina now.

I think it's very unlikely that South Carolina gets that spot, but you could strongly argue they deserve it.

They really could have and maybe should have won in Tuscaloosa, and they'd be a sneaky favorite to win the whole enchilada if they had, the apple did not fall far from the tree with Shane Beamer.
Love Beamer- and if you follow the team at all, his son is always by his side after the games. I have a feeling he is headed down the same path. Shane used to do the same things. Super cool.

Really like Bret... but I think the loss to Minnesota at home just crushes any shot we had.

The CFP picture got much cleaner. The B1G will get 4 teams in (Oregon, PSU, OSU, IU). ACC looks like a one bid league (have to think Miami drops out now, so just winner next week), as does the B12. ND is a lock now. Boise is a lock if they win MW Champ. I believe that will leave 4 teams making it from SEC (Texas, Georgia, Tennessee, and Bama/South Carolina/Ole Miss).

The last spot at-large spot really comes down to 4 teams: Bama, Ole Miss, Miami, and South Carolina. I suspect Bama will get that spot.

So I think the Citrus Bowl will be Illini against either Ole Miss or South Carolina. The win for South Carolina over Clemson today likely puts SC above Ole Miss. So my projection is Illini vs South Carolina.

The Miami loss was a pure gift to the SEC.

To me Bama getting blown out to Oklahoma hurts their chances and they have 3 loses

Ole Miss has 3 loses including one against a 4-8 Kentucky

South Carolina has 3 loses no bad loses but loss head to head to Bama and Ole Miss

Miami to me is still in. Only 2 losses against quality teams GT and Syracuse

Might have been mentioned but Ole Miss would be a good matchup with a little added drama for Luke.

I think SMU is in regardless, so Clemson winning the ACC would take the last spot.

Maybe, but they did not have any ranked wins the whole season and both losses were to unranked foes. Today really hurts Miami. If they win today, then they are near lock. Miami had the luck factor a lot most of the season. They should have had at least 3 if not 4 losses.

If Clemson ends up beating SMU in champ game next week, Miami is 100% out, as SMU should be ranked higher than Miami regardless of what happens next week.

The SEC will be rooting hard for SMU next week.

I'm just glad they didn't tie or break our 9 OT record! Miami should still be in, but you know the higher ups want another SEC team in it instead.

Teams in no question: 7 completely locked
Oregon (B10*)
PSU
Indiana
OSU
Texas (SEC*)
Notre Dame
Tennessee

Auto-Locks: 3 completely locked
MWC Champ (Boise State or UNLV) [Group of 5*]
ACC Champ (SMU or Clemson) [ACC*]
B12 Champ (ASU or ISU) [B12*]

Team in with win: 1 additional possible lock
Georgia w/ win over Texas in SEC Champ [SEC*]

So if we assume Georgia is in even with a loss to Texas, that leaves only 1 single spot remaining. Miami and BYU would be the candidates with 2 losses, Boise State would be a 3rd candidate if they lose to UNLV, and SMU would be a 4th if they lose to Clemson. South Carolina in my opinion would be the highest rated 3 loss team (yes, over Bama and Ole Miss, but we'll see if the CFP committee sees it that way). It will be very interesting to see who gets in there, but how I see it, this should be a fairly uncontroversial CFP Top 12 selection outside of the final spot despite all the chaos and anarchy.

Hmmm, Luke Altmyer vs. Jackson Card.....Interesting.

Ole Miss absolutely destroyed South Carolina. they'll be ranked higher than SC.

My prediction is we get Ole Miss.

Ole Miss, Alabama, South Carolina - one will go to Tampa, one will go to Orlando, one will go to CFP.

Alabama and Ole Miss both beat South Carolina so not sure why/how South Carolina will be ahead of either.

We won at home against Purdue (0-8 team) in OT and many games were very close that flipped to our side.
9-3 is great and Bret B looking for a raise - he deserves it.
To maintain 9-3 and to improve from here, we need to hire better Offensive and Defence coaches. See what our BB program did. Not only that will attract good players but also NIL money.

Feels like the logical end to the playoff bracket is a March Madness field of 64/selection committee before people accept it
We are at a smaller version of that now. And any larger and you probably increase the injury risk to players too much.

No matter what, some team is going to feel screwed. At least now it's the 13th best team that wasn't really that much of a contender instead of the 5th best.

Not that anyone asked, but my gripe about the prior editions of the CFP was that a team with a poor brand name could win it's games and still be left out. Any format that let's teams control their own destiny at the start of the season is better IMHO. The 4 team playoff was a big improvement over #1 vs #2, and 12 teams should be pretty exciting to watch. Most sports maximize revenue by cheapening the regular season to enhance the post-season, so I would expect college will do the same. Trying to enjoy this format while it lasts.
