Wow... Well forget what I said earlier about the committee likely following historical precedent, hell, they straight up defy logic. These rankings are just completely wack for a CFP. They look more like someone's AP ballot... All I can say is the name on the front of the jersey means more than record or resume, because that's what the committee did.

Field is pretty much set now no matter what happens. It'll be:

Oregon
Texas
Notre Dame
Ohio State
Penn State
Indiana
Tennessee
Georgia
SMU/Clemson winner
ASU/ISU winner
Boise State/UNLV winner
Alabama last team in

Miami first team out.
Ole Miss 2nd team out
South Carolina 3rd team out
Actually I don't think they defy logic at all... This is NOT really a College Football Playoff... First: It's entertainment.. The TV people - who are running the 'show' decide which teams will bring the MOST fans, the MOST money, and the MOST watchers on a TV (or even a stream) - which means if you're Alabama, you probably get in... Second: The Power 2 - SEC & B1G - Have the biggest say, after the TV executives... The SEC - G.Sankey - Has the more powerful voice than the B1G, even tho that is not huge. And of course both the SEC and the B1G are interested in the MOST money, the MOST fans, and the MOST TV watchers... Notre Dame is also influential, although that could vary widely year to year, now that their long time AD (Father Whomever) is retired... Although the committee doesn't really give 2-hoots about the Big12 or the ACC They did agree to basically let their 'champions' into the system.. Finally, they want to look magnanimous to the citizenry as a whole, so they will always choose a Group of Five into the system - but their place will be very low on the totem pole.... Soooo... Considering MONEY, and the top SEC & B1G teams, followed by the bread crumbs, I'd say it's fairly logical.... /s

Auto bids make sense but the auto bye concept is a bit much.
But but….one of the arguments was “winning a conference has to mean something”. So they literally wrote that in….top 4 ranked conference winners, come on down, you get the first 4 seeds. And, if you win your conference, you’ve played an extra games, so those teams get a bye.

I'm team chaos, so I want SMU to lose and the committee to have to answer for imevitably voting in Bama over SMU.
Yes- that will be interesting if SMU loses, whether the committee drops them below Alabama

It would penalize a team for making their conference championship- which the committee said they value those teams. For example, if Indiana made the big ten championship and got blown out by Oregon, would they still be in? I wouldn’t think so, they are only in because they don’t have to play again

We can all take comfort in knowing that even if we would have beaten Minnesota, we would not have made the playoffs.

Also, interesting thread from Robert on the selection process:

Yup, bad losses clearly don't mean a thing to the committee, only who you beat, but that's clearly not the case either because you know who has a better win than 2 loss Tennessee and also has 2 losses? BYU. And they're ranked 18th while Tennessee is 7th. In fact, Tennessee's only win of any value whatsoever was Alabama at home, a team the CFP ranks 11th... BYU is also ranked behind 3 loss Clemson whose best win is over 7-5 Pitt on the road. That's also their only win over an above .500 team. Miami's best win is also not a CFP Top 25 team, but at least they beat 9-3 Duke and 8-4 Louisville. I guess that's good enough for the #12 ranking, yet BYU who beat the CFP #8 on the road is #18? Okayyyyyy... And if you're going to value 3 loss SEC teams with good wins, then why are Ole Miss and South Carolina below Miami? They also have Texas in 2nd. For what? Beating 8-4TAMU? The only other team they beat with a winning record was 7-5 Florida. If Texas loses to Georgia, Boise State will have 2 better wins than them both away from home with their only loss coming on the road to the CFP #1 in the country... And yet Boise State is 10th?

There are many ways they could have made their Top 25 and still had Alabama in the bracket, they could at least have used one that you could at least pretend to convince yourself they didn't do it based on severe name bias.
