Illinois 21, Oregon 10 Postgame

There is much work to do. But today is among Bret’s finest work. Just as the program seemed to be teetering a bit back towards irrelevance they come up big. Days like today remind that as long as Bret is there we will never fall too far off the rails. His teams always give a good effort and he’s a real good game coach. As long time fans we are conditioned to doubt but he instills confidence in the operation. The nil needs to match his effort to take it to new heights. I’ve no doubt if he can get the horses he can deliver the goods.

That was so much fun. And so surprising. I say that even after telling a friend yesterday I thought the Illini could win. My outlook changed dramatically when Oregon easily marched downfield on its first possession. It would have been easy for the Illini to throw in the towel at that point. Or at other points, like when we recover a fumble…and fumble it right back.
Props to the players and staff for hanging tough. And proving once again that the most important play is always the next play.

Do you all realize that we are going bowling after a miserable start?

Don’t count chickens…they can’t have a letdown next week.

I know in the game thread there was a lot of trying to figure out what the Ducks were trying to do (or what they were even thinking of trying to do) on offense. And as I sit here watching the late games I think I might have an answer

(Will Stein, former Oregon OC and current Kentucky HC - who happens to be 6-1)

We obviously had/have our own DC issue this year, seems likely that Bret isn't the only coach out there that might miss on a coordinator hire.

Let me see if I can remember this. I believe Oregon had won 46 games in a row when they scored first. Secondly, was this their first road loss since joining the Big 10? ( I am not sure about the second statement).
Yes.

That was a culture stabilizing win. The defense got pushed around on the first drive, but after that were flying all over the field. After the 75 yard rd run, the Illini offense controlled the run game, which opened up the key late td pass.

Really can't be said enough how important this win is for keeping the program momentum going.

Getting to 6 wins looks much better than before, and if the product from today shows up the rest of the season, then we may be 7+ wins good by end of year.

In game thread I stated that the Illini defense would be prescription for out of sync Oregon offense. I was completely wrong. It was the other way around. Also kind of surprising the hype that surrounded Raiola all those years...this guy lacks complete confidence with his arm. He missed so many open receivers, but that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

No letting up next week. Go Illini!
