Illinois 21, Oregon 10 Postgame

I wish every date did it like we did in Wisconsin. 1A was the biggest, if you do it the other way you have to know how many classes there are to know if the competition is any good.
And, to make it more confusing - there is a different number of classes in Illinois, depending on the sport. There are four classes in basketball, three for soccer, four for track, etc.

Bret Bielema has won 15 games as an underdog at Illinois, which ranks 2nd in the country since 2021.
Is #1 Cignetti?

Clark Lea would be another guess.

Says a bit more about Vegas than anything else.
Hard disagree. Vegas is extremely sophisticated and completely unbiased.

Consistently beating Vegas is the mark of a really impactful game planner.

Exactly! You say an athlete is in 5A and with no context you hang no idea if that's good. If 1A is the highest you automatically know if the competition is good or not. You know... like in college division 1 is the best

You are correct about the number of classes varying for each sport. There are only 3 classes in track.

Listening to some Oregon podcasts after the game, they were basically saying, yeah, the season isn't going well, but losing to Illinois? That's unfathomable! I would have thought going 19-7 with consecutive bowl wins over two SEC opponents the last two years would have given the program a little more cred.

I’m sure that’s how usc felt last year. Both teams came in thinking they were going to roll us

I love that the defense finally had some things to feel shaggy about. That kind of confidence is contagious

That was supposed to say swaggy but autocorrect strikes again.

2000s it wasnt me GIF

All of those things have happened as a reaction to the crowd being sticks in the mud. The athletic department is pulling out all these crazy ideas because the fans won't cheer on their own at football or basketball games.
I hear/read fans spouting that they've had tickets for x amount of time like it is a badge of honor. IMO, that means very little if you handle it like going to Krannert.

I was in the stands the last time we beat Oregon at home back in 1970 (I was 7 at the time). My dad went to Oregon so he was excited to see them play - they had Dan Fouts and Ahmad Rashad (Bobby Moore at the time) on the roster. I don't remember much about the game, but I do seem to recall we had a big stop toward the end of the game when the Ducks were driving to take the lead.

Per Wikipedia, attendance was only 33k, but to my 7 year old eyes the crowd outside the stadium as we were going in seemed like Times Square on New Years Eve.

I am still im absolute shock how we won this game. It was great to see the defense take a couple steps forward granted Oregon was beat up but their defense wasnt. Just dominated the line of scrimmage. Hope we can squeek out 2 more wins. Should beat maryland but the last three will all be vs ranked teams.
