To be fair, that video isn’t a great look for Illinois.

But both sides can be unethical, coach Beamer, and one side is a lot more likely to cause injury than the other. Not like he defended what they did in the special teams play. Just called it “legal”
Of course he knew it was “legal.” He checked with the refs prior to the game. He was ready to pull that stunt whenever the time was right. Whether it was legal is irrelevant—other than how it relates to his integrity. Beamer knew what he was up to and knew it was dishonorable. Or should have.

It was the T motion on the kick off not the injury
And we will never hear this from the media. Especially any ESPN broadcast. I am looking forward to hearing from family (non-Illini) who will bring up Bielema's taunting with me. I'm goin gto have fun with that. BTW, my son a Mizzou grad had told me several times throughout the year what jackass Beamer is. I didn't doubt him, I didn't know. I know now.

Well the reason Bret came across the field was to check on an injured player who had taken quite a shot to his head. Once there he took advantage of the opportunity to express his displeasure with Beamers bush league move on the kickoff return to the officials and SC sideline. That's not taunting in my book. Beamer is the one who overreacted immaturely and made a fool of himself and turned it into a spectacle giving all the sport casters something to go on about.
Let's not forget the ESPN sideline reporter, who nearly soiled himself while screaming I DID! I DID SEE THE TAUNTING! {did you guys see Coach actually talking to me? gosh!}

Exactly. The elite group of Big12 refs were duds. 1.
No real video evidence the Illini fumbled in the end zone 2. The ref could have called 12 men on the field but did not. 3.The ref cpuld have stepped away from S.Car centerand allowed the offense to start while the Illini did it's slow shuffle defense subs ...but the ref never did. Coach Bieliema got in the head of the S. Car coach.
I believe this is the same crew that was on the Utah BYU game earlier in the season where there were a number of completely bone headed mistakes at the end of the game the cost Utah.

We've seen this happen twice in four days, with Cam Ward being the other one.

I'm all in favor of players with draft futures opting out before the game. I fully supported Pat Bryant's decision to not play in the bowl game, and if my kid came to me and said he was opting out I'd support him. But I will also say that once you commit to playing in the bowl game, you play. Opting out at halftime is bailing on your team. I cannot imagine a NFL team looking at one player doing this and another one committing to the full game and that not being a factor.

It also doesn't show a lot of respect to your coaches making a decision like that. I can't imagine any Illini player doing that to Bret Bielema. Take that comment however you want to take it.
I think the best solution is the reenforce the selfishness of the players and not excuse the behavior. Also, if it starts to impact the draft position of the players due to character issues that will stop it as well. Also, NIL contracts can also have character clauses that discourage it.

'79 for me so I got to cheer for the entire Henson run, which was great.
FB was pretty rough for much of that, though.
This is an understatement. I was there for Blackman's last year, then 3 years of Moeller. Which included attending the 0-0 game against Northwestern. Coming from Pittsburgh, I truly thought Illinois did not care about football ;). The few good teams we have had since were fun. I think this is the first time I see sustainability, with Whitman and Bielema.

In the moment, I had no idea what was going on when Beamer lost it as I was busy making pizzas in the kitchen with my kids. I thought he looked like a idiot without context, but once Bret put it in context, he looks even worse. I really had no emotional involvement until that moment and Bret's smirk when he then outplayed him again with the second substitution was just a cherry on top.

Also, hearing the sideline reporter talking is like listening to a home call sideline reporter, my goodness. "He taunted him, mommy, he taunted him!" It sounded like a big brother tattling that his little brother that finally got tired of his crap and fought back. Then you have the fat guy from The Hangover trying to use his head coaches psychotic break to pump up the crowd which was like starting a slow clap at the wrong time. Just top notch entertainment. It was almost a WWE moment. What a crazy way to end a year.

Go Illini.

Who was the player? Malachi hood?

I mean, the dude pops up with little effort. Takes a few steps, looks at the sideline, and keels over in pain. Usually not how players go down with injury.

Regardless, my point stands. Let’s not pretend bielema is some sort of saint. But in this game, the relative “ethicalness” comparison that Beamer is trying to make isn’t even close.
The player was Jaheim Clarke and his legs were wobbly the moment he popped up. He took a violent shot to the head (courtesy of Sellers’ thigh), and was clearly injured on the play.

Pretty appropriate WWE reference. That South Carolina S&C guy kind of reminded me of current WWE guy Braun Strowman - and the S&C guy is just about as relevant.

ZERO doubt Clarke had a potential head injury. He was never once steady before going back down.

Having had time to reflect a bit on that thrilling game, a few things come to mind:
--Seems to me part of Beamer's weird behavior, which began long before the F-bomb tirade, was because he was shocked and his team unprepared for how tough and competitive the Illini were. SC's supposed dominance lasted precisely one series, the opening series. After that, the Illini more than held their own on the line of scrimmage.
--Usually, the underdog resorts to gimmick plays. Seems like when reality hit, Beamer kind of panicked and went into a hair-on-fire (which it appeared to be) strategy.
--The game plan to stop Sellers was superb. The kid has freakish athletic ability for a QB and is legitimately dangerous when he gets outside the pocket. But the Illini rushers did a great job of staying disciplined to keep him hemmed in the pocket. Meanwhile, the back end also did a good job except for the one broken-coverage chunk play. The SC offense had put up 33 vs. LSU, 25 vs. Alabama, 35 vs. Oklahoma and 44 vs. A&M. The only other teams to limit them were Ole Miss (3) and Clemson (17), and, as Paul Finebaum would explain, Ole Miss like SC was a national title contender (if only they had made the playoffs).
--I was OK with the Bielema hire, but not real excited to see a run-first type of offense. I still grumble at some of the early down play-calling, but it's clear to me that he has a very balanced approach that stresses toughness. That toughness takes a toll on the other team as the game wears on. In the end, the Illini were simply tougher than SC. When the game was on the line, the Illini cooly executed, an extension of their coach. On the other hand, SC exhibited the fake bully characteristics of their coach.

"--The game plan to stop Sellers was superb."

I do agree with this, but the few times the defense used a 3-man rush in the 4th quarter made me nervous. Not enough pressure was applied to Sellers and he seamed to have more passing success then.

It is per the rules

I always dislike when coaches try to take advantage of rules designed for player safety. When u act like u have given up on the play ie touchback the play should be over. College should make it like the pros and you have to take a knee. It will be interesting to see if college adopts the NFL kick off
Just like when Kenny Pickett did the fake slide in the ACC championship game a few years ago. The NCAA addressed that immediately.

Anyone have a clip of Beamer ripping off multiple "F you"s to the Illinois sideline after they scored to make it 17-14?

So Beamer gave BB crap about being upset about the SC Tbar signal in the endzone because it's legal but not normally done by teams...then doesn't get the irony of his anger over BB's defensive subbing screwing up his offense when it was done legally also. Using the edge of the envelope and bending the rules a bit are ok as long it doesn't get used against you.
This could change the play calling for all of College Football......just do the fake arm spread, check on the opposing team slowing down...then pick your receiver.........why not do it on every play??

That’s not the play that I’m talking about. I’m talking about the play referenced by Beamer in the X post
