They can learn from that loss for next year and beyond.Lots of losses above us this week, but most of them too high for us to pass. Maybe we tick up two spots?
Man, that Minnesota loss …
Yep. Then we’d be lamenting the PSU loss.Lots of losses above us this week, but most of them too high for us to pass. Maybe we tick up two spots?
Man, that Minnesota loss …
That one’s a stretch. Had we beaten Minny, when the CFP rankings come out this week we’d be somewhere in the 12-15 range depending on how the committee weighs three-loss Alabama and Ole Miss against a Big Ten team with two losses, on the road, against #1 and #4. Would have been glorious to be in that debate.Yep. Then we’d be lamenting the PSU loss.
Still glorious we're even talking about this. That one’s a stretch. meh, we still would not get in at 10-2 with 4 B1G schools ahead of usLots of losses above us this week, but most of them too high for us to pass. Maybe we tick up two spots?
Man, that Minnesota loss …
Sure, but we would all be aware of the scenarios that could possibly get us in.meh, we still would not get in at 10-2 with 4 B1G schools ahead of us
Not sure Indiana would be ahead of the Illini at 10-2 with the quality of the lossesmeh, we still would not get in at 10-2 with 4 B1G schools ahead of us
Oh well. It is Illinois football. If we beat Minnesota, we would have probably crapped the bed against Michigan State. I will be completely content and happy with this season if Illinois dominates NW to get to 9-3. And as noted, even if we got to 10-2, we would probably still be outside looking in.Lots of losses above us this week, but most of them too high for us to pass. Maybe we tick up two spots?

We'll get in if all of those happened. Guarantee is a strong word but, I mean... I think.Rooting for Chaos
Illinois chances to reach the CFP are, at best, extraordinarly long. The absurd cascade of events that would have to take place for that to happen is not even worth mentioning.
Having said that... let me mention that absurd cascade, and how you should root for Illinois to sneak in to one of. the 12 spots.
Oklahoma State over Colorado
Texas over Texas A&M
Mississippi State over Ole Miss
Texas San Antonio over Army (or Navy over Army the following week)
Nevada over UNLV
Memphis over Tulane
Houston over BYU
Arizona over Arizona State
Kansas State over Iowa State
Auburn over Bama
Cal over SMU
Oregon State over Boise State
Vandy over Tennessee
Syracuse over Miami
USC over Notre Dame
Purdue over Indiana
Georgia Tech over Georgia
South Carolina vs Clemson? -- Probably South Carolina
To be clear, not all of these things need to happen -- but MOST of them do. And, there's no guarantee even that if every one of them happened, Illinois would get the nod. So it's probably easier to just appreciate a possible 9 win regular season and go get win number 10 against a high power SEC team which will probably see a lot of its players sit out the bowl game. But at least you now have a checklist for this weekend.

If you put that into a 19-leg parlay (including Illinois over NW; no books would accept that), the odds have to be less than .00001% chance of happening (heck Purdue is currently +2000 on the ML). This would literally be college football's version of the lottery.Rooting for Chaos
