Watched the game back again. Can’t state it enough, the defensive game plan was outstanding. Granted we match up with a team like Wisconsin better than we do a team like Nebraska but the point remains, Lovie called a fantastic game. The criticism of him to date as the defensive coordinator is fair and warranted but we also have to give him the credit when and where it’s due and today it is due.

That tackle by Devon Witherspoon turned out to be the difference. Great lesson for him as he moves forward.

I looked at the final TOP numbers and we didn’t even crack 20 minutes (!!) which takes an already impressive defensive performance and makes it full-on bananas

So, was at my old college buddy's wedding today (also a die-hard Illini fan). Given he was getting married today, he wasn't paying much attention to the game and more to his bride - as he should. But I was sitting at a table with a bunch of other Illinois alums who all flew out to Sacramento for this wedding, and we were watching the last minutes of the game as my friend was doing the first dance with his new wife. We let out a huge cheer right as the song ended, cause right at that moment is when McCourt kicked the winning field goal. I had the DJ announce the Illinois win on the mic and half the place cheered and his face lit up. I'd like to think the victory was a special gift for him. A cherry on top of a perfect day. Definitely one a lot of us won't soon forget.

Great win Illini! Well deserved for Illiniboard Robert and for Dre Brown and anyone who was there for the game.

As for me, I can't get excited about this team until they play good football consistently. Win next week and change my mind guys!

Well, defense was the key, good job guys. Keep the defense taught and we should win more games.
Coach, get those defensive players conditioned for 4 quarters, and with the right strategy, this team turns it around.

keep on truckin

Beautiful WIN today. The trick now is to replicate that performance for the remaining five games. Whether the squad can to that remains a big, big, big question mark to me. I tend to doubt it.

But I damn well am going to enjoy today, and rub it in the faces of my Badger brother and sister-in-law for the next year! :hailtotheorange:

Gotta be ecstatic for Tony Adams as well. I understand he’s young and still learning but he hasn’t played well this season and that entire safety room has been a huge Achilles heel. To see him pick that ball, you gotta be happy for the kid.
Adams started at cornerback today according to the telecast. Not sure what he was playing on that pick but it was a great freaking play. Finally someone showed the awareness and they doubled the TE there. Hell of a play and win today.

I just got home. Couldn’t tape the game, but I figured that was the ole blessing in disguise. Just checked ESPN, dropped my IPad. My loyalty, like all of yours, has forced me to watch every single minute of Illinois football I could, despite the results. I know it’s only one game, but it’s just so fantastic for these kids. It probably feels like a bowl win for them. Congratulations players! And coaches...good for you! You must feel so great to share this with kids I know you care deeply about.

He got dominated off the snap but didn’t quit and loved the effort. Forgot about that- good observation and agree it will be a good teaching point.

Not if they lose to Purdue, Rutgers and NW. I would love for the team to win another 3+ games, love to go bowling, but they have to back up this win.

We lose to Rutgers that thread is getting opened back up in record speed but for now, it is dead and rightfully so. Lovie is absolutely right, he needed a signature win and today he got it. Kudos to him and the rest of the staff, phenomenal game plan today.

Feed Reggie, feed Dre, get the ball out of Peters' hands quick. Repeat this ad nauseam and we can close out strong.

Our game plan should be simple. When we deviated we looked foolish. Staff deserves credit for getting back to what works.

Wow. Hard to think of a post I’ve ever agreed with more. This is spot on the way we should be approaching games offensively.

You almost have to force that 2 step and out drops with Brandon. When he has to process and diagnose, his internal clock runs way too slow. Our line has struggled to date and that can’t be argued but he’s also taken plenty of “I held the ball too long” sacks and hits. Rod needs to start calling “Get the ball out now” throws as a staple of the offense.

Just watched the game and I knew the outcome, but damn that was fun!!!

I loved the aggressive defense. We made plenty of mistakes, but still found a way to finish. Sign me up for more of this!
