Nothing better than troll jobs in college athletics. They played this at the stadium after the game today.
It smelled as though the place was burning that day (especially around Willie's dressing room.Tell ya what, you think they can fit that many people in Memorial Stadium for a football game, be my guest.
There was a similar smell in Grange Grove after the game today. It smelled as though the place was burning that day (especially around Willie's dressing room.
Jack Trudeau 65.3% in 1984. Jason Verduzco 65.2% in 1992. Tony Eason 61.8 in 1982.Jason Verduzco?
Nah....it's full buy in now. We just dominated the "best" (statistically) defense other than ours. Dominated.
Our defense just contained the 2nd best RB in the country and sh#t whipped their passing game
We can beat anybody on any given night.
Does anyone know if Eason stays in contact with Illinois? Also, how about bringing the '83-'84 team back in 2023 to celebrate the 40 year anniversary of THE ONLY BIG TEN TEAM TO BEAT ALL CONFERENCE RIVALS IN A SINGLE SEASON!!That's exactly who I was thinking of too.
I got called out by someone for suggesting that if the Illini clean up the Red Zone offense, they' d be a dangerous team.Aside from red zone challenges, just a dominating performance.
I remember the '82 season. Memorial started filling up with raucous crowds. East balcony shaking and had to be shored up. It was wild.I was around for '83, '89, '90, and '01. In each of those seasons it was clear by the first weekend in October that the team had something special. '07 was nice but had some October stumbles (Michigan, Iowa.) And '11, of course, went from 6-0 to a dumpster fire by early November (the sword of Damocles always seemed to be hanging over the Zooker's teams.)
I don't know if I'm just getting old and grumpy, but since the Indinia game I keep telling myself that this team is overachieving and isn't comparable to those earlier teams. Then Wisconsin raised my eyebrows. And Iowa was a rock fight gut check. All the while I kept telling myself that if they handled Minnesota in mid-October I'd feel differently.
And I do. There's something happening here, as Stephen Stills once sang. But what it is ain't exactly clear / There's Chase Brown and our D with a gun over there / Tellin' me (and opponents) that we got to beware.
Here are the best Illini starts since the epic 1963 season Rose Bowl champions:
1963: 5-0-1
1982: 5-2
1983: 10-1
1989: 7-1
1990: 6-1
2001: 10-1
2011: 6-1
2022: 6-1
This fall is tied with 2011 and 1990 for the third best start in 59 seasons since the '63 team. If the boys win in Lincoln in two weeks they'll be tied with '89 for the second best start.
Third best. Maybe, two weeks from now, second best. 59 seasons. I'm 56. I can't get my head around this.
There's something happening here.
oh - we have red zone issues . part of it is the play calling when we are inside the 10.I got called out by someone for suggesting that if the Illini clean up the Red Zone offense, they' d be a dangerous team.
yup . I was a Sr. Had season tickets in the 4th row east balcony , on the south 35 . we had gotten lucky and had a real low lottery numberI remember the '82 season. Memorial started filling up with raucous crowds. East balcony shaking and had to be shored up. It was wild.

Did David Williams ever drop a pass?Seems to make a big difference having receivers with great hands. Another thing that was missing in the recent past.
