What a great day for this old hippie named pru....

The Illini win in dominating fashion and the St. Louis Blues win their season opener over the Columbus Blue Jackets 5 - 2.....
Off now with NL # 3 to explore the great climatic unknowns of our bodies threshold levels....

I love this fleeting existence called life as each day brings new adventures and merriment..
Explore the great unknown weary traveler with a smile on your face..
.
It might be your last adventure or a series of new adventures...
Just try to understand happiness and embrace every second of your life..
I know I am...I really really am...
Later all and peace out.........

Nah....it's full buy in now. We just dominated the "best" (statistically) defense other than ours. Dominated.

Our defense just contained the 2nd best RB in the country and sh#t whipped their passing game

We can beat anybody on any given night.

I was around for '83, '89, '90, and '01. In each of those seasons it was clear by the first weekend in October that the team had something special. '07 was nice but had some October stumbles (Michigan, Iowa.) And '11, of course, went from 6-0 to a dumpster fire by early November (the sword of Damocles always seemed to be hanging over the Zooker's teams.)

I don't know if I'm just getting old and grumpy, but since the Indinia game I keep telling myself that this team is overachieving and isn't comparable to those earlier teams. Then Wisconsin raised my eyebrows. And Iowa was a rock fight gut check. All the while I kept telling myself that if they handled Minnesota in mid-October I'd feel differently.

And I do. There's something happening here, as Stephen Stills once sang. But what it is ain't exactly clear / There's Chase Brown and our D with a gun over there / Tellin' me (and opponents) that we got to beware.

Here are the best Illini starts since the epic 1963 season Rose Bowl champions:

1963: 5-0-1
1982: 5-2
1983: 10-1
1989: 7-1
1990: 6-1
2001: 10-1
2011: 6-1
2022: 6-1

This fall is tied with 2011 and 1990 for the third best start in 59 seasons since the '63 team. If the boys win in Lincoln in two weeks they'll be tied with '89 for the second best start.

Third best. Maybe, two weeks from now, second best. 59 seasons. I'm 56. I can't get my head around this.

There's something happening here. :illinois::chief:
I remember the '82 season. Memorial started filling up with raucous crowds. East balcony shaking and had to be shored up. It was wild.

I got called out by someone for suggesting that if the Illini clean up the Red Zone offense, they' d be a dangerous team.
oh - we have red zone issues . part of it is the play calling when we are inside the 10.

it’s all been partly hidden due to our backup kicker going 7 for 7 the past 2 games .

here’s hoping lunney can figure it out with McCray coming back

It's great to see players like Pat Bryant have a breakout season like he has this year........I feel if the ball is close to him that he will bring it in for a catch .....the recent memories of a couple years ago of dropped passes by most of the receivers is a distant nightmare and some of the credit has to go to TDV.....Wish he had another year with us as he has been an Ancientsend ..................................

I try NOT to think about the Friday night STEAL against the punchface loosiers cause if I do regress and think about it , I become a raging lunatic......

I really really do.......................................

A lot of these opposing fanbases were clowning on the hire at the time. welp a good amount of those fanbases (Iowa, Wisc etc etc) are being left in a pile of dust. Scorched earth and all.

I can't emphasize enough how refreshing it is to have a proven hard nosed leader as the head coach of our football program. This is only year 2 of the Bielema era. I can't wait for what the present & future holds for this program.
