When I played football in high school, I was the holder. I always focus on the snap and hold when I watch placekicking. As soon as I saw the snap was perfect and wasn’t muffed, I knew the game was over. I was infinitely more worried about the snap and hold than I ever was about Olano’s kick.
Since it was a short field goal, I wasn’t overly worried about that. If it was a 40 yard field goal or longer where Olano would have needed to drive it instead of chip it, I would have been a lot more worried.I was just as much worried about the kick being blocked.
Sorry if I missed it, but where was Rusk for the bowl game?
He played just one play. I believe he’s out of eligibility, but could apply for a medical redshirt waiver and get one more year. I know he and Luke were best friends too, so wirh Luke graduating, could be a kid on transfer watch.Good call, either he didn't play or was not noticeable.
I suspect they had no idea how well coached and disciplined the Illini are. Any player would have gone down. Also on the Vols board, I counted no less than 13 different versions of this post. The fans were all on the same page, even if the Vols coaching staff disagreed.

The little I read on their board certainly showed that some were reasonable/realistic.The South Carolina fans were extremely delusional, assuming their one-year ascension to the mid-upper tier of the SEC put them in blue blood territory. The Tennessee fans I’ve seen, at least outside of their game thread (which we know is always ashow on any board) have been respectful and reasonable. They’ve been upper tier before and they recognize when their otherwise good team falls a bit below their norm.
in basketballThere was one thing I’m not sure has been mentioned but several times Tennessee players went out of their way to slam our guys down hard rather than just tackle them. Isn’t that a foul?
13 was especially annoying and glad MP blasted him.I just watched portions of the game again. That linebacker for Tennessee (No. 13) was really annoying with his dirty/bullying attempts to intimidate the Illini throughout the game. It was therefore especially sweet to watch him creep up to the line of scrimmage for the crucial 4th down play with 2:23 left in the game, charge hard toward the A gap when the ball was snapped, and then get blasted in that same direction by Melvin Priestly, which allowed Jordan Anderson to slip to the right of Priestly and run for 13 yards and the first down.
My family roots are in Tennessee. They do love their Vols but are not obnoxious about it. Generally very nice and generous people.I have vacationed a lot in the Pigeon Forge area during football season. The locals are totally nuts about Tennessee football. This loss was probably a bitter pill to swallow for the locals.
This is wonderful! I can’t believe how far we have come since Bret arrived.
