I think people tend to judge us by our best games instead of the fact that we're an improving program that is going to have some turds every year for the next four or five years.

Last year's Michigan State game was a great example. Rutgers the year before.

It's just nice to have your turds be wins! Definitely a wake up call. I expect us to be much sharper next week.

Say what you will about Toledo being solid, etc. but Illinois needs to get to a level where home games against MAC teams (any MAC team, idc how "solid" they are) is an auto-win, over by halftime kinda game and that has been severely lacking. Realistically, Toledo will not be a Top 50 team by season's end.

I wouldn't go that far. Very good chance Toledo doesn't lose again this year and ends the year a fringe top 25 team. (their schedule is very favorable)

Ehhh they are probably going to win the MAC again this year.

I disagree. Toledo very well may be top 30 by the time the season is over.

Toledo was technically ranked higher than you going into the season. They had 4 AP votes to our 3.

Glad we won, no doubt. Yet, I’m really surprised that 7 pages in and not one mention about how the “law firm” was completely neutralized by a MAC o-line. I mean, almost zero impact on the game. Three man pass rush most of the game giving the QB all day to throw and no disruption to the rhythm of Toledo’s offense. I’d have to give A Henry an F for his defensive play calling in his first game. Hope he’s a fast learner or it’s going to be a long season.

In one offseason, Deion Sanders took a 1-11 squad and beat the national runner up on opening day the very next year. Now, I'm starting to lose my patience. It's been three years and the Offensive line still isn't any good. Now, the defensive line has taken a major step back. The only saving grace was our QB. Oh and the fact that we prevented the Schmuck Toledo fan having the satisfaction of beating us.

Game plan wasn’t really to rush the passer…creates huge running lanes for a guy as mobile as Finn. Was to keep him in the pocket(historically he isn’t very good in the pocket)

Well, there was plenty of that during the game thread if it makes you feel any better.

I was confused by the three man rushes, but I also admit I’m not sure if we knew this was coming or not, and they just had a bad game. I kept waiting for more blitzes or stunts etc.

That said, didn’t we start off slow in the defensive line front last year too? Wasn’t it not until after Indiana when things really clicked?
