Penn State is also getting more than they want early in their game as well. Ap State is much better of course, but the underdogs come in with alot of juice for these games and can often get off to a good start. That being said, we shot ourselves in the foot (hello special teams and dropped passes) today.

Second half was decent but overall that was a grade “D” effort against a lousy MAC team with a brand new coach. Very disappointing start for a regime now in its third season. SO many bonehead plays and missed assignments by both players and coaches. Why run a play with 1:20 when they could just take knees?! That is Zook caliber dumb.

Oh, and I just read that Boyd and V. Brown are out for the year due to grades. Lovely.

One bright spot: Jake Hansen has a real nose for the ball. Remains to be seen if he can shed blocks and shoot gaps against BIG caliber athletes.

I am still at four wins for the season. That is my heart talking and not my brain talking.

After the first half, I would have said one win.

I don't love it, but I'll take a win with a valiant second half come back effort. Saw some honestly promising things, but I have little patience left for things like that kickoff fiasco. There is no reason why our staff can't get these guys more prepared for situations like that.

Went into today with my expected wins at 4.5, gotta say its down to 3.5. We still should be able to beat a crappy B1G team this year. Maybe we get lucky with another one. But cmon lets grow from this one guys!

Our defense is.... frustrating to say the least. Cornerbacks playing 10 yards off giving up easy 8 yard catches all day. Safeties just starting 20 yards off the ball and just sitting there allowing catches right in front of them. The bend but don't break defense will not work for us.

Depending on suspension situations I believe this team continues to improve and if we get all or close to everyone back next week and can stay relatively healthy I see constant improvements and possible 5 wins ..
Lot to learn but they are getting minutes to learn it Go ILLINI

Did Kent State look lousy to you? Do you think their coach cannot run a program? As for the end of the game, they had to run that play because they could not have bled it off just taking a knee one more time than they did. I myself would have kicked a field goal.

If you count that one as the .5 win we still have 3 more!!

A win! Not surprised much by the game. Got to give the young team some credit for sticking with it. A lot of good teaching moments that can be corrected, but I expect they will have a lot more. There will be growing pains with a team this young with no depth and no real upperclassmen to learn from and be challenged by to get better. I for one am still excited to see this team grow as hard as it can be to watch sometimes.

Woody Barrett is going to be a real problem for a lot of teams in the MAC. Young man played (mostly) a good game. Had a couple throws that really hurt them (missed an easy touchdown on the drive where they got a field goal and had a terrible throw that totally changed the momentum of the game) but otherwise, have to be thrilled if you're a fan of the Golden Flashes. Also, I suspect Sean Lewis is going to do good things there. Won't be surprised to hear his name come up for bigger jobs in the next few years.

As for us, nice to have the win. On to next week.

Well, I feel a bit better about my $9.99/month BTN subscription. :thumb:

A poor start but much better second half. Hopefully that will carry through to next week.

Unfortunately, next week's game is not on out here. Will have to rely on this board for updates.

Go Illini!!! :illinois::shield:

Chicago Tribune says the suspensions are indefinit; no reasons given.

This is going to be a long season. It's great to come out of that with a win, but this is going to be a tough season.

I’m going to look at the positives here. We owned the second half. Learned from our mistakes in the first. And we won going away. Defense is going to have problems until (and after) the suspensions are lifted. But they learned how to tame Barret. Loved that goal line stand where KS no doubt thought another 4th down conversion.

Primo koolaid drinker here but looks like there’s a shiny side to this team.

OK...it's in the W column. Bunch of WHAT? moments....the backs seem to give up the entire middle ground on pass plays...why are we so far off the receivers, slant plays, in and out....it's kinda like a protect against the TD but give up these little bites of yardage...I can't see this working in the BIGS.
