I’m going to look at the positives here. We owned the second half. Learned from our mistakes in the first. And we won going away. Defense is going to have problems until (and after) the suspensions are lifted. But they learned how to tame Barret. Loved that goal line stand where KS no doubt thought another 4th down conversion.

Primo koolaid drinker here but looks like there’s a shiny side to this team.

Not to harsh on your orange mellow, but a goal line stand inside 2:00 to win by a TD isn’t “we won going away”.
It’s way closer to we won, but almost gave it away.

Unfortunately, next week's game is not on out here. Will have to rely on this board for updates.
TCR posted a link to Tune In that you can at least hear the radio broadcast. I used that today for the first time and it's far better than just "watching" the game through Gametrackers, (which are generally awful). I do look forward to being able to watch a game on TV when I'm back in the B1G footprint again later this year. It will be the first Illini game I'll actually get to view in about 10 years. I'm already looking forward to it!

Grading AJ's performance;

On it's own merits - C
Considering it was his first major college start - B
On a curve against all QB performances in the Lovie Era - A
Hard to argue with that.

I do take solace in the halftime adjustments. A team able to make improvements in the locker room can stay in a lot of games. So as demoralizing as the first half seemed, I feel quite good after the 28-7 second half. Particularly given the mistakes that were [still] made in that half. Most of the big ones were from the guys in their first game here. The kids will learn.

But our lack of OL depth is terrifying.

As J Lehman said in the first half, we had receivers open but AJ Bush was late on his throws. And the goofiness of the 2 punt returns at the end of the first half was sad. Why do they teach fielding a kickoff on the sidelines within the 5 yard line at all? Once again, our punter is the most valuable player on the team. Our middle linebacker is the co-most valuable player on the team. I expected our offensive line to play much better than they did. At least the refs didn't flag holding every other play. And the referee got all his video replays correct and promptly. That coach of Kent State is a winner. Shots of Lovie on the sidelines show him as the least animated HC other than Paul Chryst.
Hansen had 6 tackles for loss today tying a school record set in 1998 by Jeff Weisse.

But our lack of OL depth is terrifying.

Our lack of depth everywhere except the D line is terrifying. The secondary was really weak without Williams, Hobbs and Adams.

Our lack of an OL is terrifying. Announcer said we brought in a TE to help with blocking.

Did anyone see or hear the official attendance?

31,898. Keep in mind they gave free tickets to any student who wanted them. I was shocked by the amount of booing from the home fans today. I go back to Elliott and don't believe I've ever seen it worse than it was in the first half.

The lack of OL depth, especially now with Boyd and Brown already out for the season, *will* be be the undoing of the team this year.

P.S. I hate the way we look like Syracuse in these uniforms. Two thumbs down.

imo, really affected the O not having Dorsey on the field. We are one deep at all six Oline positions and thought the 5 regulars that played today left themselves a lot of room for improvement.

It was nice to see freshmen like Avery get some snaps. The new red shirt rules will be very beneficial to this team in the future. Sydney Brown was out there quite a bit too. Probably had a lot to do with Adams Hobbs and Bennett out though.

Hansen played a great game and it shouldn't be overlooked. We had a major problem last year finding a linebacker that could figure out what a hole is and how to fill it. Hansen has an opportunity to really contribute a lot this year. Also thought Sam Mays was a very pleasant positive.

Unfortunately offensive line I'm afraid I agree 100 percent Bad deal could have been a salvageable season 5 or 6 wins now not so sure think more like 3 maybe 4 hopefully I'm wrong!

So I just witnessed a group of gusty Fighting Illini win today, starting my 34th straight year of season football tickets. I read the entire game thread. I’m not sure how many of you ever attend games, but I’m astonished at many of your in-game posts. I predicted at halftime that we’d comeback and win. Oh, ye, of little faith. The bi*#@ing and moaning was beyond obnoxious. How about instead of being such negative “fans,” you put your money where your mouth is, go to a game, and cheer on these kids and coaches who are busting their butts. Stop your darn booing. The Mikey Dudek’s, Nick Allegretti’s, Austin Robert’s, Dre Brown’s on this team, who have faced adversity, who have fought back through numerous injuries, who are juniors or seniors, who have remained loyal, and who have been through three different head coaches and staffs, deserve better. Give this team, Lovie, and his coaches a chance. I’m calling you all out, IL. Buy a ticket, go to an effing game, and cheer our kids on. There, I said it. Ban me if you must, Dan.

Most of us were upset because we want those gutsy players to play well and win, chiefini. They did come back and win, making many of us happy for them.

I personally was upset that the coaching seemed to be the problem. Halftime adjustments fixed that.

I was at the game. Season ticket holder for 14 years. The game was just as bad from the stadium as it was watching it on TV. There are a lot of excuses for the bad gameplay, but there are also a lot of inexcusable things that I saw in today’s game.

“Telling the truth” and “negative” are often times intertwined. Even more so with this team. I love my Illini football, and the second half was a lot of fun. The first half was the worst half of football I’ve seen in my experience at memorial stadium given the context of the situation. I’m not a fan of booing, but I am never going to criticize people for pointing out the truth of what they’re seeing.

Like them also "orange outlines around the I are growing on me" Go Illini
If you want to see good photos of Illini uniforms go to thechampaignroom.com ,Top 10 Illinois uniforms.

Butkus era came in second. Classic, but maybe a little plain for some. Interesting, the pants are kind of yellowy orange, as I remember them. I'm not crazy about this season's model. Yes, they're retro, but the orange is way too orange for me.

I've seen the Butkus helmet before, but does anybody know what the four stars stand for? INTS, sacks?

His helmet had one navy blue stripe between two white ones. Nice.

Thanks.
