This team plays ugly. Defense dominated the Spartans the first 24 minutes then all hell broke loose. Illinois couldn't stop me [I m 80] in the 2nd half. Spartans completely dominated the field in the 2nd half. Only a stupid call by the Spartan coach allowed the Illini to get an undeserved win.
The refs couldn't get the call right on the onside kick. How can you review the play to see if the Spartan player touched the ball in or out of bounds when the kicking team was called off side. Then we got this extra view from nowhere! The Big Ten and the officiating have looked stupid with the replays. Well I look for the Illini to get a thorough !!! kicking against Oregon. Very poor roster build.

What he said “Under NCAA Rule 7-3-8, defensive pass interference rules only apply if a legal forward pass crosses the neutral zone (the line of scrimmage).” the ball never got close to crossing the line of scrimmage
Learn something new every day as I wondered why PI wasn't called. Yay us...

Because there was still a minute plus on the clock and if we had to get a FG that is enough time to get in position for one and win the game. The other team is a lot more conservative if it’s a tie game and a turnover costs them the game in that last drive. If you go for 2 you want it to be a win/lose trade off - not a win/lose/lose scenario, the math doesn’t work then
Spent a lot of time at Altgeld?

They were reviewing replay of the kick to see if the MSU player was out of bounds when he caught the ball. If he was, Illinois would have gotten their choice of the ball there plus a 5 yard penalty or take the offsides and have MSU rekick from the 30 yd line. Obviously, Illinois would have elected the first option if replay had determined the MSU player was out of bounds.

Yes. And while talented D-Linemen are a limited resource, talented LB's are much more common and there is no reason a P4 team should be as deficient as we are in that area
I've been wondering lately about our focus on recruiting state of Illinois talent and the role it may have played in our deficient talent. There may be no apparent role on the surface but could have been an underlying distraction. Sometimes a small factor can cause a burgeoning negative ripple effect in the efficiency of a system.

I'm sure that I just missed it, but Houser's right hand or left? And would it matter if its his left? Obviously a qb still needs to take a snap.

(Sorry to veer from all the happy Clayton optimism.)

Unfortunately I wasn't able to watch or even record the game because we were dealing with a cat 3 hurricane living down here in Gulf Breeze fl. Sounds like I didn't miss much and would have been super frustrated again on how we played and maybe were being coached. Although we had a lot of damage to home and property I am thankful no one was hurt. I am also thankful for the Illini loyalty members who are posting on the game threads thus keeping me updated on what's going in the game no matter how they are venting or applauding the plays.

A 65 year old Oscar winning actor lead a college football team to an overtime win on the road. Anything's possible in 2026.

maybe this was discussed and I missed it….did Hauser hurt his hand on the pressured throw that was intercepted or on the tackle that saved MSU from running it in for a TD. Just curious if it was mentioned.

Barnett was carrying the football like a loaf of bread and he wasn't even carry it in the correct position anytime he was near a defender. It was only a matter of few more carries before he fumbled it. He's got to learn oh to keep the ball on the correct side of his body when navigating a defender.

This seems like pretty straightforward thing to coach and practice. Why hasn’t it been addressed already?

Somehow he is still doing it.?
The bench is the best teacher. If you don't believe me, ask Lou Henson. Ask Bardo. He said that the first time he would put you on the bench with a scowl. The second time you are all the way on the end of the bench, in line after the walk-ons, and he wouldn't even look your direction. Didn't matter who you were.

I know, this is football, but ball security is even more important here.

Oh, we are totally going to miss Hauser.

You needed like a foot. Clayton looked surprised by the snap and we got no push.

We hadn't gotten them to punt since the first quarter. Their possessions before were TD, TD, TD, FG, fumble, TD.

Getting a first down basically seals the game.
Busting out a toss would have been a TD. If you rewatch, they had NO ONE on the edge at all.
