Illinois 38, Rutgers 10 POSTGAME

Very impressed by the DL’s second half effort after an ugly first half. Brandon’s big run sparked things but the DL finished them. Nice to have done it while resting Betiku for a second week as well.

Hopefully he’s back next week and the play in the last 30 carry over. If they do, MSU will have some trouble.

I never wanted to see an Illini running back get stopped for less than 3 yards today, unfortunately that ended up happening a lot. I got to hand it to Lovie, however. His ability to get his teams to create turnovers turned this one from a 50/50 game to a blowout in our favor in the course of about 15 minutes.

Something else this offensive attack needs in addition to Daniel Barker, more throws to Bhebe. Sounds stupid because he’s already targeted at a high percentage but the kid is simply too damn good to not throw the ball up to him any time he gets a Cover 0 look. Even if ends in a pick, I’m ok with it. More often than not Josh will make those plays and they’ll be huge, momentum changing plays. If we see Josh with those looks pre-snap, scrap whatever your first read is and throw him the football.

Seems simple but I agree. If he’s manned up with no help we need to take a shot there. He’s the best athlete on the field and has shown the ability to go and get it

Exactly. He’s one iffy call and a Doug Kramer penalty away from 9 TDs and a seat among the most impactful WRs in the country. He needs more opportunities down the field and he’s getting the looks to do it, we need to start pulling the trigger more than we have to date.

That was definitely a touchdown. Ground caused the fumble

Only if the step before is what you call a “football move”. Otherwise, he never controls it and you can’t fumble a ball you never controlled.

It was a 50-50 call that I see both ways. Just didn’t go in our favor that time,

Best receiver since Geronimo Allison

1st half sucked. 2nd half did not. Team is starting to develop an identity. Force turnovers and run the ball. And I’m still cold.
