On Love watching our signals while wearing a headset, would we really not have changed those up enough that he’d be able to tell them anything meaningful? It didn’t feel like we struggled to move the ball? Maybe more of an attempted psy op than anything useful?

Unrelated, but can somebody explain the offensive pass interference on the 2pt conversion? Don’t recall ever seeing that called against an O-linemen and the replay didn’t answer any questions for me.
i thought the call could have been ineligible receiver downfield, he didnt PI.

i hate the blame the official game but man, that was rough. really was flabbergasted at the no call on LA targeting.

This right here.

A lot of the stuff coming out of PU feels like such insecure “little brother syndrome”

Bret totally knew Walters was going to go for two at the end and he was ready for it and we blew them up

Fresno state doing for to bc they have the chance to beat a B1G on the road makes sense. PU doing it just feels well kinda desperate.
Desperate? They had already been successful. I wasn’t surprised at his call for 2 pts.

i dunno, thought they had some really good insights on how well our DC, Kevin Kane, was calling our defense

I actually didn’t think they were terrible overall but then again I don’t consider an announcer making some positive remarks about our opponents as being “homers” for those teams as some on here do.
Plus I tend to tune out announcers except for mainly factual comments. The bad reporting referred only to them mentioning the analyst in connection to play calling many times if that analyst was calling plays. Maybe they did mention Walters was calling plays and I missed it while tuning them out.

He blocked the LB covering Laughery. Can't do that - it's basically a pick play. The targeting could/should have been called. I was more floored by the obvious DPIs that went uncalled - three on Purdue, one on us.

Can't stand Walters. I hope he gets the can and is stuck being a mid level door mat. From sending out the team during the 3 in 1 and just being an arrogant @$$, I hope they get rolled the rest of the year. And once again, commentary of the game was atrocious. They wanted Purdue to win that game flat out. Disappointing that we can't get any love from any national commentators. 1 of em was decent but the secondary commentator was crickets when Illinois did anything then hyping up Purdue D-line like they were the most dominant front in college football.

Just got home from game. Few thoughts:

1) Embarrassing that a number of fans stormed the field after beating a terrible team. Such a bad look

2) Illini were on cruise control until a double move td from Purdue, followed by the sack, fumble td. Completely turned the game around, and the fans clearly felt it

3) Defense looked bad for stretches in first half, but tightened when needed. In the second half, it broke. So many miscues, and Purdue took advantage. 500+ yards allowed is unacceptable (at least they made one stop on last play)

4) The onside kick recovery was terrible (get the ball!). That type of recovery up the middle like that should never happen

5) Very fortunate on game tying drive. Live I thought Altmyer fumbled, the replay was very close. Glad it was called down on field, as these calls always seem to go against us

6) Altmyer and offense was mostly crisp. Wow is Bryant a beast

"Forget what you saw, Illini won back the Cannon. 5-1. Beat Michigan!"
Could not agree more with #1. This was the first home game I've attended in a while. It's bugs me how the wine and cheese crowd says "Well, at least we won". We should be irate at the number of mental mistakes and big plays we let up.

Beat Michigan

Let us also spare a thought for how astonishingly bad the announcing was.

There was tons of stuff, but three things spring to mind

1. Ryan Walters was calling offensive plays for Purdue, and yet Jason Simmons was one of their primary narratives of the game, just a straight up factual error.
2. Announcers always lamely hype up hot seat coaches, but it's very obnoxious for both sets of fans. A bad habit.
3. Eric Collins has been around a long time and is naturally high energy, but in the last couple of years he's transitioned to a go-insane-on-every-play style that is just flatly unprofessional and someone needs to tell him to stop.
The color commentator saying, “nice” or simply laughing after every other positive-yard play was painful.

One of the iron laws of football fans is that every team, no matter how good or bad, must always have exactly one (1) Bad Coordinator. No more no less.

Henry took the baton back from Lunney today.
Come on man, it was one bad game. Our defense has been solid all year until yesterday - much improved from last year. Lunney has been really good the entire season

Every team no matter how good(or bad) they may be will have a bad half of football throughout an entire season....just hoping that this was that bad half....and that there's not another one lurking out there over the next several games.

Vegas had us with 5 wins on the season. We have 5 wins halfway through it. I’ll enjoy the win.

Very little chatter about the real MVP of the season so far… but how big are Olano’s balls? Or “cojones”, he might prefer. He is HIM and BB needs to trust him to make a 25 yard extra point <eye roll>.

Oh, and if we don’t recover that fluke “onside kick” at the end of the half, we don’t even make it to OT. We. Got. Lucky.

If he's hurt and banged up I think Kaden should be switched to middle linebacker next season. The guy is getting beaten up as a running back. Let him beat up running backs for a change. The days of Rick Casares, Jim Taylor and Jim Brown are long gone - or even Grabowski. Or Bronko Nagurski even. Said hello to him at his gas station in International Falls, MN when I was 16 on the way to Canada fishing trip with my grandfather. Cool. The legend was he had a size 20 or 22 ring finger or something like that.
Sorry. According to Wiki, Bronko has the largest NFL Championship ring ever recorded - only a 19 1/2.

Tbh, if we do have one I want it to come against UM or OU. The last 4 games are all winnable, but will require better play than what we saw in 2H yesterday

But was he more than a yard into the end zone? And if so was that defender even in coverage? Looked like he was tied up with his original blocking assignment. Almost like they had the wrong jersey number. I’m no rules official, but I watched it three times and haven’t been able to crack the code.

You make your “luck” by being prepared.

I am certainly as guilty as many here (maybe more than many) of overreacting in the game thread (a place I desperately try to stay away from during games). Mea culpa, mea culpa, mea maxima culpa (credit: Jimmy Buffett, appropriately from the song "Fruitcakes").

However, I'd like to point out that it has been said many, many, many, times on Loyalty that there is no such thing as a "good" loss. Ergo, there can be no such thing as a "bad" win. If a "bad" win does not exist, this must therefore be considered a good win.

5-1 baby, 97% of us would have taken that at the beginning of the season in a heartbeat. Now let's heal up, prepare and kick the living daylights out of ScUM next week!
I am going to take the win and sprint to next week. I blame it on the uniforms. I'll be fine with never seeing them again. Awesome to see McCray go for 130 yards of rushing and receiving!

Perhaps he was lined on the end and so was actually an eligible receiver?
