the most frustrating part for me is how Brad just lets teams play slow if they want. no idea why we weren't pressuring them more in the back court.
Just as our game plan was to stay in the pockets of their 3 pt shooters, there’s was to get back on defense as quickly as possible. Every time TSJ tries to push it in transition there were already 3 defenders back.

By the way, I really need to give a shout out to Brad. He analyzed our first 30 minutes and put out our most effective players this game for that final 10 minute run.

I also really liked the strategic shift he implemented for Ty, basically rotating him inside during offensive possessions to be an offensive threat in the forward role he was highly effective in last year as CoHawk naturally shifts out. Ty had a great game because of it. This rotation is something that will give opponents issues all year and is very difficult to defend.

Overall really good coaching strategically in my opinion in this one

We’re not chucking 3’s and playing 1 on 1 like last yr at all!
Like I said, it’s early, but they did chuck up 32 threes against Eastern and their free throw shooting so far is pencil sharp. Long season in front of them and a ton of work to do.

Great game for Dain. Co-Leads team on 2pt % (with Rogers) on 5-8 shooting (similar to last season at 64%). Dain gets 19 mins and postgame interview. Great save by Dain on a poor 3pt shooting night for the Illini (25%, which was a lot worse until late in this game).

Dain came in and stopped the bleeding. Bravo!

Epiphany....Goode and Domask are excellent spot up shooters....but neither is an aggressive shooter. That is what this team needs...an aggressive shooter that will take shots from 25 ft. and closer in a heartbeat and make them.

They also need someone to come to CU and teach them the physics and physiology of shooting free throws.

Liked what I saw from CoHawk tonight other than his once a game forced pass that goes out of bounds when trying to get the ball to the weak-side wing who is covered like a blanket under the basket. But he made up for that with a couple of late game passes to a wide open QG. Goode had to play against their zone but he also has to be better defensively in M to M defense.

Brad is still looking for the most efficient lineup and the top players seem to be TSJ, CoHawk, DD, and QG. How to mix and match support and take advantage of other talents is a huge problem.

I am guessing DGL will not be B1G player of the year....but he had no turnovers, missed no FTs, and grabbed a couple of boards tonight against some good, smart, experienced guards. A building block.

Watching Arizona go to Cameron Indoor and lead Duke most of the game which they won by hitting 6-6 from the FT line in the final minute certainly reinforces the importance of that aspect of the game. And watching Larson and Love conform to the basic fundamentals left almost no doubt how easy that can be compared to the way our guys go about it.

Overall, a fairly fun game to watch and another good learning experience. My fondest hope is that some day this team will at least try to play the first 10 min. with the defensive intensity as they played the last 10 min. Bottom line the Illini depth was the big difference because I am not sure the Illini won on superior talent or coaching.

I know the overreaction to the start and the poor FT shooting will get more play, but that is a good offensive team.....and we absolutely chained them up and swallowed the key the last 8-10 minutes.

Good win, Oakland will win a bunch.
Get ready, Marquette is gonna full court press. They are big, fast, and we'll coached.
Press and free throws may kill us! I have hope, especially in our athletic ability. Sure wish we shot 70% from free throw line.

Two games in, this looks like a bubble team. No flow offensively and no shooting. Defense has been solid though.

Winning ugly, but I'll take it especially figuring out some things late. Good experience for the early season seeing some zone, feeling some in-game pressure and playing at a different pace than we are used to (62 possession game, slower pace than any game we played last season). Will need to play better next time out to get the W.
