Alternatively, why did Austin play so much? He is a liability at both ends. That said, I am still pretty happy.

He got a huge 4th foul on Jok and got him out of the game for several minutes. That was crucial. He has plenty of weaknesses for sure but he played hard and didn't really hurt us today. He disrupted a couple more plays on defense and hit a jumper late in the shot clock as well IIRC.

I'd also like to point out that since the inception of the Big Ten Tournament each time Illinois has had a losing record in the regular season... they have advanced to the Championship game in the Big Ten Tournament. :thumb:

Go beat Purdue!

What a great game! I kind of feel sorry for Jok, he's a great kid and didn't deserve to be on the bench for end of the game. But shite happens, I'll take it!

And JCL, congrats! This is just the beginning for him, and I love the fact that he is more than just a shooter. Can't wait to see what he can do the next 3 years.

I disagree. He had 4 fouls and pushed a guy and got in his face. That's not smart basketball. Nunn baited him and he took it.

I'm not a Groce hater, but his end of the game management was pretty suspect

I am thrilled that we won and very happy to see the kind of effort our guys put forth today. But....

Groce needed to call a timeout at the 3:00 mark and tell the team what the TV announcers were stressing at that point: We can't just play not to lose. Our guys got lethargic on offense and sloppy with the ball and if not for Iowa's ineptitude at the end, we could have lost.

I am a big fan of John Groce, BUT I was SMH, when Tate was in the game more than Lewis. Lewis was at least scoring. When Tate was out there, there were some plays, with the shot clock dwindling down, the defense plays off Tate and he makes a bad shot or he would force a bad pass when Iowa pressured him (in Tate's defense, he did have two good assists).

I am happy the Illini won, but putting Tate in, more than Lewis, I just did not get that. I did agree with Groce putting in Austin to guard Jok, though. He did not stop Jok, but seemed to slow him down a bit. Anyways, Go Illini!

Tate had some really good passes in the second half, including a great one to JCL for an open three during the meltdown. It just didn't fall.

Also agree with throwing a fresh AA out there. Use up his fouls, especially when Jok is hitting threes.

Yeah, according to the rule book he deserved to be on the bench. I just don't agree with the rule book. Emotion is part of the game. They both shoved each other and that's it. They were both smart enough to end it right there, the refs don't need to do anything in that scenario.

I thought we just looked tired more than anything, running out of gas playing back to back games. First half was a lot of up and down the floor action. Get to sleep early tonight, guys. We'll need fresh legs for a big, physical Purdue team. Let's get another W!

When we were up 11 late my son had been napping in my arms since the start of the 2nd half. My arm was sweaty and tired, and it was hard to navigate loyalty with 1 hand, so I took him to his bedroom. I thought to myself, "I hope that change didn't just jinx us..."

Then Iowa's run started. Luckily, the squirt sensed it and immediately woke up, forcing me to go pick him up and rock him back to sleep in my lap, where he still remains, sleeping. I'm going to try to keep this nap going until about 330 tomorrow afternoon. I don't care how sweaty my arm gets!

I'm at work. I'm really disappointed I missed the game, but love reading about the result, especially JCL! How many threes did he end up with?

JCL is incredible at getting open. He has a great knack for finding the right spot at the right time. He has bailed out other players on our team numerous time because of their bad passes. If he gets a good point guard (or even competent) watch out. Also, goodness gracious has Mav improved. He is blowing me away

Such a good good win. Great job by JCL and Morgan. Can't believe they were the biggest contributors of the game but I'm so happy they were :)
