Illinois 68, Iowa 66 POSTGAME

Much as I love DJW's motor and potential he didn't look very comfortable when he was on the court today. I think for the most part the right guys were on the floor. Maybe a little too much Tate late in the game when we were playing not to lose but he had a couple of nice assists when we were playing to win.

We beat Iowa in the BTT for God's sake! I'm gonna enjoy it.

for all of 5 min

Agree except for the last sentence... since he's a walk-on, no keep to earn. i don't remember a walk-on ever making a contribution like this.

Tornado beat me to it. I'd also add Brian Johnson and I'd say Jeffrey Jordan was on par with Austin.

Watched it in the office lobby with all Hawkeyes fans (only one of which knew I was an Illini fan/Iowa grad because she had the pleasure of going to high school with me ), and it was absolutely priceless. It was so hard to contain my big fat grin.

And tried to catch an outlet pass with his back after a turnover

Why in the world would he be the first option for that pass? If I'm him, I am busting my tail to get down the floor, not expecting to play PG at that time...

Yeah, that was not his fault - not the right option to go to. Sometimes you turn and see an open guy and let it go...

Just finished watching the game (had jury duty). Great Win!!! It is great to see the team playing well at the end of year. JCL is going to be really good before he's done. Great day!

Team's Got Talent

Seeing how Michigan and Ohio State have come to earth following one injury, you have to give Groce a pass on this year. The team has talent, next year should be fun. Need a PG (sounds like two on the way Tracy and TCL) and explosive big men. Maverick and Finke should hold their own against most teams except Indiana. Need to get Black back and hopefully Thorne. Black a little bit explosive and Thorne can make up partly with size.

Hopefully can get some of that inside explosiveness with Kipper and DJ next season as well, although both are really WF.

Just got home a bit ago, and watched the game on DVR. It may sound like hyperbole, but there are not that many times I have felt prouder of our guys.

This is the antithesis of the past few years when the team has faded. If there is reason to hope for Groce as our future, this is it. Guys fought, defended, and didn't cave when Iowa made the inevitable run.

I don't know if we'll go farther, but even if we don't, today was a fantastic way to (almost...still believing) close out the season. I am from the QC's, so this is even sweeter!

Agreed 100% ! Especially in the QC. So many Iowa fans :(

Great win, always a fun to beat Iowa and bonus points for Fran being testy after the game.

Mav got us going and JCL was money.

I am watching the replay right now. Are you guys absolutely sure we win this one? It looks like Jok is going to win it all by himself.

I know it's not popular or really accepted by many on here to read anything positive about John Groce, but since he's all that is talked about on post game threads after losses, I wanted to just say I thought he, along with the team did a great job. They defeated a team that soundly beat us on our home court. We were double digit underdogs today and came out with a big W.

I've seen props going out to Whitman and Lovie in this postgame thread, and people questioning Groce, so I thought I'd take a chance of being bombarded with criticism and say something positive about him.

Well, you're right of course. You can't be the goat in all of the losses and invisible for the wins. This was big. Big for JG, big for the team. A great day
