Way to protect OUR COURT. Great team win by the boys. Get taught to play through calls, the wILL of wanting it more, and most importantly making FT. You will come as the Winner. H2TC

2 turning points in the game as I saw it was...
1...Brad went to the see thru visor and lit the team up at that timeout, getting in Kofi's jock about a D mistake
2. Going to the twin towers lineup...GB hit a big 3 when we were down and made some good passes to Kofi down low

Ayo took over the game the last 10-12 minutes but those 2 things started the worm turning, IMHO

Play of the game IMO was when we were up 5, Trent missed the front end and TJD beats everyone down the floor for a layup to cut it to 3, but Cuerbello hustles and somehow gets a hand on the pass to deflect it off the backboard for a turnover. Ayo comes down and hits a 3 to put us up 8. 5 point swing in a game where 5 points really meant a lot.

Maybe it was matchups but felt like this was our best defensive performance of the year so far. Hope they can build on it and right the ship offensively.

Excellent observation!! This play was at the 2:14 mark and if Curbelo doesn't knock it away, TJD gets an easy 2. Lead is only 3 then. That play by Curbello was just a flat out basketball play.

If the season were to end today, Curbelo makes the all BIG freshman team. Miller, probably not.
Miller is OK, just had an off day. He has the open 3 confidence we need off the tip to minimize the slow starts we have had. Curbelo "God love him" is amazing, and has to be very tough to coach. His skill level is off the charts , but is not is high school any more. I think Underwood has done a great job of not "ripping his butt", and letting the game come to him. Ayo is a flat out stud late game, and is going to be missed when he goes pro. Kofi came to the right place to develop and is doing very well. Georgi, Demonte, & Trent are great upper classmen doing their jobs to win. This is a time to sit back and enjoy Illini basketball, with a lump in your throat.

Agree 100%. Maybe it's just a confidence thing with Miller at this point, or maybe he drank too much eggnog yesterday. He had a lot of minutes with no points, no rebounds, no assists and no steals. And he was out of position and confused on the defensive end. I know people use the excuse that he's a Freshman, but he was Mr Basketball so I expected more at this point. That cannot continue if he wants to start. I would start Curbelo.
I would start Grand, not because I think he playing great but he significantly could help against the Ron Harper’s of the BIG. I think Curbello coming off the bench is fine (he plays starter minutes anyways). His defense is improving the tip off the backboard was huge.

So back to Miller. Miller and Curbello are not really competing for the same “starting” position. Curbello is really Frazier’s backup. At this point Miller would be better suited coming off the bench and playing when Curbello is in the game. Andre will get him open looks and that is what he needs at this point. He is forcing shots, getting beat on defense and is actually in the way on may offensive sets when the “starters” are in.

Granderson (just as Bardo said) is really a key for Illinois they don’t have another player (shy Hawkins - and he is a fresh) like him. I think him starting and Miller coming off the bench for now would pay dividends down the road.

Unfortunately Miller has had 9 off games. Other than the first patsy he really looks lost? See my previous post, he really needs to come off the bench with Curbello. He would see some easy shots under that scenario and that could help get him going.

I believe Kevin Turner is the answer to the question about last to score 30 back to back.
Although I see now that this was already answered....

He'll (Miller) be ok too. He is just freshman too. We all want him to find his role this year. He was the man, and now has to find is place. If he can be a triple treat, he will be a great shooter. He has big shoes to fill for Ayo next year, and likely will disappoint a little. 2 years from now IMO, he will be our go to guy.

Careful, lot of people thought I was nuts when I suggested starting Grandison in the Penn State pregame thread. And I agree Miller and Curbelo aren’t really in competition for starting. It is Trent and Andre, which is one reason why I don’t think we’ll see Curbelo starting anytime soon. He played 27 minutes against PSU and 30 this game, so he’s getting his minutes. I also think BU might like him off the bench for rotation reasons and setting things up for the last 6-8 minutes of half and game.
