Illinois 70, Indiana 62 Postgame

I’ll preface this by saying we didn’t play very good at all. No cutting, lots of settling, missed free throws, playing too slow, etc, but the rotation today was a HUGE mess.

I get trying to give guys opportunity to try and provide a spark but the way guys were used was baffling. I don’t understand how Ty sits for 10 mins in the first half, dominates and then sits the last 14 mins of the game. Ty is one of our best five players. I understand Harmon was +23 , but he was 2 for 7 from the floor. Some of his mins can be distributed. Also, understand Goode is one of our only shot makers, but him and Domask on the floor is not very good defensively (see Northwestern).

I also don’t understand the playing the same guys the last 10 mins of the game. Also wish we would try a lineup of Ty, Harmon, Domask, Shannon, Coleman. Frustrating to see the last few games after the way we were playing in December.
Did something happen to QG? Didn’t play down the stretch

I'm very concerned, we have a lot of things we need to figure out.
1. Why cant we stop athletic bigs?
2. Team looks off whenever Shannon is in the game right now.
3. Why does Underwood completely abandon Rodgers in these second halves?
Outside of Zach I am not sure if we know if Dain can or can't stop a back to the basket Big. But no one stops Zach one on one. Has he had a chance to? I dont think so because we switch everything. It causes mismatches for us other places too as seen vs NW. Maybe we shouldn't.

IU did not make a three today yet wet we barely squeaked out a win, at home. Our half court offense is so brutal - what are we doing? Our defense is predictable and adjustments, if any, are way too late. The zone in the 1st half [an adjustment by Brad = wow, surprise, and in the 1st half] disrupted the IU offensive rhythm but more importantly allowed us to get out and run and make threes = take the lead. We played like a fringe top fifty team today, so Hummel souring on us should not be surprising.

I'll take the win for sure, but I just cannot understand Brad's decisions regarding Ty today. Our defense looks more tenacious when he's on the court. Our offense flows much better when he's on the court. He has been one of our best players all season and he was far and away our best player that 1st half. I do not know what caused him to be benched 15min in the 2nd half and for such a big stretch in the 1st half. Makes no sense to me. Maybe that bad 2nd foul pissed Brad off, but good lord, he was doing so much fantastic today. Don't get it. Just don't.

My concern is that when we slow down and let MD back down, it takes so much energy out of the offensive play and keeps everyone else from getting into the flow. Opponents are counting on this strategy and letting him bounce it off his foot a couple of times a game and giving the weak-side help plenty of time to surprise him. Ball did not get into the lane other than for MD booty plays, CoHawk drives, and TSjr. rips to the rim.

Lucky to get the W on an avg. against a depleted Hoosier squad. Hard game to watch but some good things happened also.

Getting DGL into the game for a trey was a good thing for all, and following turnover got him back to the bench which was also likely a good thing for all. Kid needs to harness his adrenaline and learn to make the right play at all times on both ends....but he can do it if he will do it. Has some gifts, but thousands of others did too who never ever got the chance to get where he is. Live your dream DGL and strive to become the Boo....we need you to be that player.

As a hoops fan, I give Indiana a nod of respect, even though I see them as our chief rival. It would be Michigan...but they have made themselves of no consequence over the past 100+ years. But they played close to their potential tonight...but just do not have the shooters to keep up with teams that do.

Finally, every one of these every day guys is a personal favorite of mine to various degrees.....but where was my favorite tonight? Q got a couple or three huge boards, but did not take a shot from the floor. And only 2-6 from the line? I am thinking he may have a bug, like I have fought off for two weeks, and if so he deserves a pass. But this team goes where Q, Hawk, TSjr. and MD lead it, and he needs to be a leader. Quite an anomaly game for him.

Anyway, we all, I am sure, hope to see this team running and gunning again, cutting and rolling, defending like banshees, and confident as hell. Hope that is soon!!!

If we make our free throws earlier in the game we win by a lot more

Interior D is a problem. Need to figure that out

DGL provided quality minutes and his 3 was at a critical juncture

Hawkins needs to stop complaining that everything is a foul or he didn’t foul. He needs to play the next play. I have no problem during a dead ball talking to the ref about what he sees but we the ball is love you can’t be throwing a hissy fit. Need to hustle

We’re lucky that should’ve been a charge on TSJ and we would’ve probably been blown out if they had Ware. Onto the next but gotta clean up a lot of these mistakes
