Illinois 70, Iowa 66 POSTGAME

The Worm

Didn't mean to imply that he should have started day 1 - but it was clear by the FSU game he was ready. He then got 16, 5, 11, DNP, DNP, 3, 10, DNP... mins right after??? Was he injured during the season?

1. Groce coddles freshman and defers to vets.

2. The DNPs were right around finals, and also came at a point where his play was definitely not as crisp as it is has been in BigTen play. I'm guessing Groce thought he needed a mental & physical break.

If that's the case, Groce deserves to pay for such a ridiculous way of thinking with his job.

I actually had thought about going back and figuring his minutes after he first looked ready...I'm glad someone did.

Groce has a very particular criteria for who gets minutes based on how they display intensity & decision making on defense during practice. In theory that makes sense but I think everyone can agree the dude just doesn't play rotations that put him in the best position to win.
