Illinois 73, Northwestern 66 Postgame

The Great Northwest
I've never seen anybody do what Ayo did last night. He crossed half court with 24 seconds on the shot clock. Dribbled in the same spot for 16 seconds, took literally one step forward, and then launched a dagger without making a single move. That was some Larry Bird level confidence.
You must not have been there the Sunday afternoon that Derek Harper did that to Minnesota on the same court---to put the ILLINI into the NCAA tournament! (that is what it reminded me of!)

I watched the game on TV that day. Don't know if the term,, dagger was used then and I guess we were tied at the time or down by one but I will never forget that shot! Memories of Eddie Johnson baseline shot against Michigan State. At least that's the way I remember it. Somebody reply with a better take on that. I would love to relive those shots in my mind. I guess Anderson's shot at Indiana was pretty good too,lol

Last nite he started out great with a 15 ft shot and a 3 pter....then he comes out and I was thinking " why " myself....DMW has been playing great but I am glad grandi is starting now and wish he would get more tick...his hustle and rebounding is needed...
i guess we can just trust BU to play the lineups he thinks is doing it for us....I think he got a question last night on this topic but my mind is fuzzy this morning from the late night celebration of the Illini's win......
Yes!! BU needs to play the players he sees fit. He knows his talent better than any of us. He sees them in practice daily, talks to them on the sidelines during the game and knows what he’s trying to accomplish with his lineup at any given moment.
He has his team on a six game winning streak. Let’s let coach play the lineup he chooses and we’ll enjoy this amazing season and support him fully. The man has us up to second place in the best conference in the nation.
Do you Brad!! We’ve finally got a coach that has this program headed in the right direction. Let’s accept the lapses and understand that we were regularly on the losing end of the close games when we were down and out and we praised every other Big Ten coach for knowing how to win on off nights. We aren’t unique in struggling with inferior teams.

Don't have much to say, but: Ayo is amazing; and when you're a Top Five team, the lessers will come at you like crazy. Fend them off, which Illinois has done, pretty much. One more thing: make those FREE throws, men. Slow down, if you can, take deep breaths, bounce the ball, get comfy and ... shoot. It may make all the difference from here on out.

GO ILLINI!

Outstanding post.

What I don't understand about Ace is his quickness is elite. But he can't penetrate. He seems to be able to get within 5-7 feet of the basket, but then backs out...I'm not sure what he'll need to do to cover the remaining 5-7 feet, but hopefully he can figure that out.

I vaguely recall him getting swatted a few times going to the basket early in the season. Maybe that's why he's so hesitant on drives.

Trent does this alot too. Wish him and Ace would take it hard to rack and get fouled more often you can see teams not respect their drive.

Yes, he seems to avoid contact when he drives. He double pumps or scoops to try to get around it instead of finishing strong. By doing that he gets off balance and also misses the opportunity to draw a foul. Perhaps a little quality time with Andres Feliz or Ayo to show him how to finish!
