Illinois 73, Ohio State 68 Postgame

Agree. He won the game for us in the last 2 minutes. Coach even said on the post game radio show.
Who drew the foul that fouled out OSU's big guy that was having a great game?
That probably allowed BU to put DMFW on Liddell.
A really big play also.

Purdue also beat OSU twice. So it wasn't just due to their friendly schedule.
They're a touch behind OSU in efficiency, but ahead in the actual standings due to a bit more of a favorable schedule. They beat OSU twice, but played Michigan, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin (which they did beat at Purdue), and Rutgers once each.

Yes. And also didn’t quite understand what he meant by saying that Liddell “had something to prove” against a team that desperately wanted him.
It is a false narrative to say Illinois had him in our backyard and either didn't want him or let him get away. Both Groce and BU wanted him. I don't know what led him not to commit, either he really liked OSU or their was drama from one of our former players.

With Liddel, I believe we are in the same group as Gonzaga and Baylor.

Glue Guys hold a very special place in my heart.

My favorite Illini in history are Lucas Johnson and Robert Archibald. When I watched Fighting Illini basketball growing up, those were the guys that made the winning plays and got under opponents skin. Luckily, they were on the same team and worked wonderfully together.

Our 2020-2021 Illini have their own Johnson/Archibald combination in DaMonte Williams and Jacob Grandison. Throughout the season they have made so many little plays here and there to win games. Today was no different.

Grandison in the first half did all of the little things. Making extra passes, great cuts, and rebounding. It is in my opinion, he should have had more minutes in the second half, but we won and I am happy because of this next MFer.

Gotdam, Motherlovin’, DMFW. He saved one errant pass in the first half that was destined for the fifth row. Then in the second half saved a long offensive rebound to Giorgi to get us another possession.

And that defense on Liddell to close out the game?! If you don’t appreciate DaMonte yet, well guess what, he hit the game tying 3 with 90 seconds to go. Just straight up onions, cash money.

Grandison and DaMonte are approaching the admiration level of Archibald and Johnson. A few more March performances like today and they’ll be there.

Yeah, Id like to see Gonzaga do that. Or even Baylor.
I repeat my bet with my step son. He gets the Modesto beach house for one night ( /s ) if Gonzaga even makes the Final Four. Their league is full of cupcakes.

How long since they even played a ranked team, much less knock off three ranked teams, in a row, on the road?

I'm aware of their schedule. But they also beat OSU twice, so IMO, you can't say that they're the 4 instead of the 5 only due to a friendly schedule. They may very well be the better team. Their efficiency numbers are close enough over 20 games that the head-to-head wins could mean more than less than 1 point per 100 possessions.

Justice Sueing was the only Buckeye who fouled out. He was called for a block against Ayo. Ayo made the basket and the and one to make it 71-68.

Illini win 3 straight on the road in the B1G including over #2 scUM and #7 OSU.......and yet somehow the focus is on Dick Vitale and his colorful commentary.

Good perspective. /s
Absolutely on point.

Let's redirect the flow: who among us on Saturday morning Feb. 20 had us obliterating MN at The Barn, and then winning four of the remaining five, four of which were on the road against MSU, Wisc, Mich, and OSU. Oh, and BTW, playing against Wisc and Mich w/o Ayo and delivering a generational beat-down of 18-1, #2-ranked Michigan in Crisler Arena on prime-time national TV.

Anyone? Bueller?

Let us truly rejoice in the embarrassment of riches that Illini fans have enjoyed these past two weeks, and the giddy anticipation with which we await the remainder of the month.

I said 2-4 was more likely than 4-2. We went 5-1. I'll happily eat crow.

That was an amazingly fabulous win today. I was not happy with some of those calls down the stretch, but we came up with the shots when we needed them and great defense shutting down a pretty tough OSU team, so on we go to the tournaments. Number 1 seed seems assured, but I'd like to see us do well in the Big 10 tourney as a tuneup.

This team is rocking and rolling, great to see and it might be the best ever. I'm optimistic right now.

I do know that and I stand by what I said.
I watched sports for decades before politics and disease were constantly part of the picture. I wish that were still the case.
I support your right to express your opinion. That said I personally don't mind reminding people to donate to the V Foundation along with other medical research programs but then I am bias. My dad died from cancer and a niece was diagnosed with leukemia when she was 3. Research has helped the survival rate change drastically in the past few decades. If a little "hawking his wares" saves a few hundred children, count me in. In the 2 hour game they spent less than 5 minutes talking about it.

Unfortunately, Sky, we have our turd fans too. We just finished our regular season with the most conference wins in program history, we got our star player back and it looks like he didn’t miss a beat, we are going into the BTT with a double bye, and are a lock for a number one seed in the Big Dance. Yet, there are still those that use a victory thread to gripe about someone talking about a cancer charity. I believe a “get off my lawn” is in order.

Yeah I was screaming at Vitale...this wasn’t a chip on the shoulder game for Liddell, he had a scholarship, we recruited him hard, he chose tOSU. He has no reason to play us like we spurned him.
You could look at it another way though...he goes back to the home state saying “I told you I made the right choice.” Which, of course, he did not.
