Credit to Brad for giving RJ a second and third chance. A lot of coaches (and a lot of fans) would have moved on. Hope he continues to improve going into March
I definitely agree with everything you said.

But to play devil's advocate... what were Brad's options, especially before Luke was ready? Everyone has to have a pretty long leash given our current roster.

Btw, the Krush has been pretty luke warm this year. I feel like it's not providing the same home court advantage we're used to. After some of the shot selections , I think that should be improved of as well.
Hard to get hyped up when 7 win Minnesota is the opponent. I do agree though. They aren't the Orange Krush of the early 2000s. They were pretty loud during the Michigan St. comeback. And the Iowa games the last couple of seasons, the Arizona game last year, the Purdue game last year. I think they only bring it when the high level teams come to town, which is unfortunate

I commented to my wife several times during the game that Krush was so quiet and almost disinterested. even at the beginning of both halves, a number of the students were barely moving. btw, when RJ got his 5th rebound she said he's gonna double-double
I agree and have noticed the same thing this season... Most are to busy playing on their phones or drinking. Certainly believe they could be alot louder while being respectful. If not give me the tickets I am 3 times their ages and can get louder

Yup. There has been one close game at home all season and it was very loud for that. But for the most part it is on par for noise level and atmosphere for every road game I have been at.

I wouldn’t have moved on. He has been doing a lot of things well. However not to take anything away from RJ I will admit I would have played Goode more than him at least going into last night. If we need shooting I still may but RJ certainly excelled last night in all phases except from 3. It was awesome when he hit the one at a key moment of the game! I yelled at the tv I was so glad to see that one go down! He deserves it! He has played very hard for sure. It’s great to have options depending on game flow and needs

Some people talk about how Coach can appear to be ‘hard’ at times on players. But with Coach showing faith in Melendrez like that and putting him in situations where he can succeed... this is where Coach shows how much he loves his guys and backs them with all his energy.

You want to play for a Coach like that. A Coach who cares about his players and who will support them in any way he can.

Illini have a Coach that understands the great history and legacy of Illini ball. And he shows that same level of respect and passion to support whomever puts on the Illini uniform.

I don't know if tonight's roster will win a national championship...that's like a nuclear take after a win over the Gophers...but I do see a lot of guys that have ridiculous potential when they are just playing. And if the core of these freshmen and sophomores stick around, that's a pretty high ceiling by itself - and we know that's not all that's on the horizon.
A couple true point guards and improved perimeter shooting and we look pretty tough. This year we have this tall, tough to match up with back court... at times it seems as if everyone on the floor is back court, but poor ball handling/passing and abysmal shooting from behind the arc seem to limit us. But then when our D is locked down and we're not turning the ball over we look competitive against anyone. At this point I'm just along for the ride and I've decided to enjoy the fun.

Third game in six days, I’ll take that effort.

Also, I could take or leave the McNugget promo but McDonald’s has certainly gotten some mileage out of it.
I've never actually tried to get the nuggets, because... mcnuggets, but I LOVE the fans going nuts on a second miss with the other team trying to figure out why everyone is going nuts. It's always great for a laugh. If something bumps up the energy and noise in SFC then I like it.

I'll get McNuggets about once a year as kind of a nostalgic thing, but I have to smother them in so much sauce to get them down that I choose not to eat them for another year.

Kind of like the McRib. The last one I had tasted like a parking lot covered in cheap BBQ sauce, but I'm sure I'll have another one sometime in 2024.

RJ barely played last year. he had apendicitus. He showed out for about 12 minutes in a NCAA basketball game against Houston. This year has been a catastrophe for him. Enough of the hyperbole and expectations, big 10 player, future NBA player ? What are you guys smoking I want some! let him develop, I hope he stays with us. Believes in the coaches, the process and we shall see. He is 19 yrs old. I have no idea what has happened, but being Athletically gifted and performing are 2 considerably different things. I am rooting for him. It will take time. Big10 player of the year and NBA based off last year and this year. Seriously?

Yeah, I used to like both McNuggets and the McRib as a kid. Now, I'm like...

And one more thing hoops fan 47 the last 20 years I have coached at least 50 kids from 6' to 6' 5, 6' 7 at the 8th grade level. finally could dunk with authority it's not the 50, 60,70s ,or even 80's. Bigger stronger faster, better trained. Maybe not fundamentally! 🤣

I have no idea what post you're responding to, but RJ averaged 14 minutes a game last year, so significantly more than "barely played". He missed 3 games in late Feb/early March because of appendicitis, and I don't know what your point is about the Houston game because he only scored 9 (5 lower than his season high) over 20 minutes.

Jaden Epps is about to score 300 points as freshman year talk to me then 84 point versus 300 points, I appreciate your fandom and your support but you're completely ignorant on the stats.

RJ didn't even play more than Omar Payne what is your response to that demonte Williams played more at the 4 and the 3 last year we had, Trent plumber he scored 84 points in 22 games think about that for a second before you post a response thank you
