Maybe Hoiberg should've told Rienk Mast to stop shooting it somewhere along the line when he was 0 for 8. (He made two shots in the final minute of the game.) Nebraska didn't fight back after they missed at the 24-second mark, so if the game was closer, there was time left on the board for them to intentionally foul and see what happens. For reference, they scored five points and we scored three in the final 22 seconds of our previous match-up.

Tyler from IlliniBoard noticed this change to our defensive philosophy this year:

“Underwood’s recent defenses ranked 8th, 16th, 7th, and 3rd respectively over the past four seasons in opponents‘ percentage of three point attempts relative to two point attempts. This season? We rank 243rd in that stat.”

And then asked Brad about it after the game:

Last year, the defensive philosophy was to force “tough 2’s”. This year, it seems like it’s to prevent easy layups, even if that means giving up a slightly higher percentage of shots from three.

For any of you under the age of 30, cherish every moment of this season. While I believe Underwood will continue to produce, teams like this one are rare. I sat in the student section for every game in 88-89 and was at every home game in 04-05. Those seasons are still near and dear to my heart and every other Illini fan who experienced them. This season is lining up to be our best season yet. There are no guarantees there will be another like it for another 20 years. Carpe Diem & Go Illini!

Let's be honest. We have a very good team. When the Ivisic twins were in the game together, were we playing some zone? I think so. correct?

It will take a few games to get him back to game shape. He'll rotate heavily with Jake and Andrej is my guess.
And it will take a few games for the team chemistry to reform around the new combinations. Remember when TJ first came back after suspension, and MJ first came back to the Bulls after "retirement". As an aside, thanks to the afternoon start, I was able to listen, down here in Montevideo, to Barnhardt and Altenberger call the game. Right now I'm priviledged to read all the post-game comments. My shout out to all you great fans.

It's perfect that Mirk, besides his fantastic play, sprinkles the team with the right amount of insanity.

I bet he and the Ivisic bros would be a fun night out.
Idk about Tomi and Mirkovic but Z is the guy if you wanna have fun night out. Stojakovic is also giving same vibes when it comes to that.

That video of David already went viral over here, but he obviously chirped with that fan on his native language assuming fan knew it as well. He hit him with couple “choice” words that made whole thing even funnier. Whole body language and head tilting is characteristic for a town he’s from when you get into some kind verbal altercation, which made whole situation both weird and entertaining for outsiders 😅

Nebraska with its cupcake schedule, is actually over achieving, with exception of Purdue (keep those crying towels out cornhuskers) their schedule is what dreams are made of.
Illini flying under the radar, love it. Finally get to relax a little watching, love these guys

Tyler found Wagler on a tape
It's my understanding he was in Kansas looking at his teammate and saw him, called brad and said you have to watch him. Brad offered after watching his film.

For any of the ball knowers out there, what did we do differently on D this game compared to the first time we played that worked so well?

Seemed like they couldn’t get anything going inside the three point line all game. I believe at one point Nebraska had 47 points and 13 threes. Which means 39 of their 47 points came from three. At that point, I knew we would win. They’d need something like 20 threes to win and there’s just no way they could do it.
Nothing earth shattering. Talking, knowing scouting reports, attention to detail, and pride. There we still some instances where we got lost on some of those Frager 3's in the corner, but Nebraska is really good and those things happen. Their bigs aren't really much of an option underneath against our size.
