Maybe I overlooked it in the other comments, but I’m surprised no one mentioned Kofi’s ft shooting today. It didn’t even look like the blind squirrel finding the nut, he looked confident and focused at the line and took care of business. Down the stretch I was more confident in his fts than Curbelo’s. He had two things to work on this year, passing from the post and ft shooting. He improved in both areas.
Izzo mentioned it.

Izzo is really hard to watch on the sidelines the way he cries to officials all game even on legit fouls- it probably got him a couple of calls today, but where is his self respect? Yes, officials are horrible, get used to it

With the goon attack on Ayo last year and his constant whining- I’ve lost all respect for Izzo over the last couple of years
In addition, the entire MSU athletics program, from Nasser through D'Antonio's troublesome recruits, to Izzo has seemed a bit, well, unseemly for a long while.

Kofi has improved that’s for sure. Izzo grudgingly mentioned it. He’s got a left hand, ft’s are better “but I still don’t have confidence”. Definitely better at passing out of the post but still needs improvement.

Compared to Michigan? I think they are in the same boat.

They finally came to play 2 halves. Great effort by all. Good rotation from bench allowed starters to rest more. Finally rebounded, shot free throws well. Grandison and Kofi were awesome. You knew sooner or later MSU was going to make a run. The Illini had enough left to hold them off.
Still have a concern about Plummer not scoring in 2nd half again and Trent not scoring in first half. We need both those guys going forward.
Just watched OSU lose to Iowa. Big game coming again Thursday!

Did you just see what Walker did to Belo?! Belo doesn't fight through screens. He needs to watch film of how hard Trent fights through them. And he never blocks out. If Plummer had been guarding Walker as Belo did, everyone on this board would have been screaming.
Curbelo is craftier than Plummer but not that much of a better defender

BU even resembles Keady a little bit, both in appearance and demeanor . . . .

My favorite Keady photo at his wedding in Hawai, BTW check out the flower girl.LOL

Plummer was easily the worst defender on Walker or any other gaurd. He became a liability and needed to be taken out, probably sooner than he was.

I went back and watched that 3 second call on Kofi. That is never called and the intent of the rule is to keep a player from essentially camping out under the basket. Kofi wasn’t camping, and watching the clock looked closer to 2 seconds than 3 seconds. Just don’t understand why the ref made that call at that time. Strange.
Regardless of the W, these Big10 refs never fail to surprise me with their ineptitude. That was an absolute clown show to both sides. The mid-play stoppage while Curbelo was down made no sense, the foul on Jake (which took place well before the shot) while the 3 point shot went down for an additional 1-1(a 5 point swing opportunity, are you kidding?) was brutal, and the 3 second call was perplexing.

What's the story. He's obviously traveling with the team, so it makes me think he's back practicing.
I've been looking for Dainja the last couple of games. Saw Hutch but didn't see him. Is he traveling with the team?

This.

The only complaint (that is too strong a word also - I just don’t know what I would call it?) with BU’s game today was when he got trapped with Payne in the game looking for the under 8 minute time out.

You just knew Payne would miss the front end, MSU would come down and hit a 3 and BU would need a time out to get Kofi back in.

I know he was trying to steal minutes to get to the under 8 TO, just worked out terribly for us.

I think we should give Hawkins some back up minutes at the 5 when Kofi rests. He is every bit as good a shot blocker as Payne and a much much better offensive player. Obviously you can’t do that against a Purdue type center, but he is 6’10”. He played very well today, and Payne just is really an issue any time he is on the floor.

In fact, Payne pretty much has to have Curbello out there with him as his only offense is the lobs that Dre throws for him. I am pretty sure those same plays could be run for Hawkins?

Payne needs some work to be a serviceable big in the BIG, hope that comes next year as we are going to need him. Hard to believe he was ranked only 1 spot behind Kofi coming out of HS.
I don’t know; maybe I’m naive or just mistaken but just because a guy is tall doesn’t mean he can play center — especially when he’s been playing only the 4 all year. I agree Payne isn’t great and neither is BBV, and I know some people want to see CH get more minutes but no, you don’t insert him at 5 for the first time with 4 games left in regular season. While Hawk might be better overall offensively than Payne, all of his best offensive attributes are nullified by being in the post. I thought Hawk played pretty well today. Let’s just build on that to get him effective at the 4. Next year if Kofi isn’t here and BU hasn’t brought in another big, sure maybe you can install some Hawk at the 5 — but now, no thanks unless it is made a necessity because of injuries.
