Rebounding and made free throws saved us.

Defense and turnovers (almost) killed us. Way too many blow bys. And they were absolutely targeting Humrichous every possession.

We still don’t seem to know how to step on an opponents throat once we have them on the ropes. But I was glad to see us pull this one out in crunch time. Shows a lot of growth and poise.

The refs totally robbed the game of any flow. It was the only way Mizzou could stay in the game. Two calls against Morez were a ref just anticipating a foul and not waiting to see if there actually was a foul (spoiler: there wasn’t).
The win was made even more difficult by two four-point turnaround layups — point-blank misses followed by a foul on the rebound try that ended each time with two Mizzou FTs.
All things considered, a gutsy performance by the Illini.

I am glad we are getting our west coast games early in the schedule. No more nail biters please.

HOLD ON... Just a moment!... The Refs have called both teams back to St. Louis! Game is not yet over!

After reviewing the Game video before leaving town to be with their ‘Loved Ones’ for the holiday ... Refs have just given the Illini squad fifteen technical fouls for excess celebration when the Game ‘ended’!

Mizzou will now shoot 15 straight free-throws... the Winner will then be declared with no time on the clock ... and THEN the Game shall be over!

Is this just another Christmas Miracle (?) ... or one of those Dark Vision-type flashbacks like George Bailey had when he 'Doesn't Exist' (!) in Bedford Falls?

And I'm not sure they’ll ever want to show this new Game Ending on the Hallmark Channel... (Maybe just in Columbia and Jeff City?).

Recap: Illini are pretty good. Stop those turnovers and all will be well. But I think it's simply a case of a very young team jelling. Lotta talent.

But I cannot forgive Kylan for missing that last free throw and ruining a 100% FT team shooting day. Bench him!

Seriously, Kylan is great. Leader, point the way. Welcome back to Champaign.

Illini: don't take Chiicago State for granted.

And more Morez. Watched him llke a hawk - and he's a rebounding hawk! Hope he remains an Illini a long time.

I wasn’t able to watch the game today. And since it was broadcast on ESPN, I don’t think it will be replayed on B1G Plus. In a post a couple of weeks ago (or so), someone mentioned Draftmatic. I did a search, and it appears that Draftmatic was yanked from YouTube. Someone mentioned that that can happen, but they will resurface under a different name. Does anyone know if that is true, what the new name would be, or any other way to watch the full game on YouTube? Thanks.

I think the Blues next game is in Detroit. I used to work as an usher back when it was named Kiel. Seen them flip the floor from a SLU game in afternoon to a Blues game the same night. Only takes about 3 hours and that includes installing the dashers. Pretty amazing, actually.

There is not one common letter between the two names. Sorry. Dumb jokes aside, I didn’get to see the game. How did Booth look? (I know he got in early.) Couldn’t he play spot/reserve minutes to give MJ or Tomi a breather if/when the two BIGs lineup continues? Or is that a no go?

I think the refs prevented Brad from playing Rez more and Ben less. I don't see Davis or Booth at this time being a serviceable backup for long stretches. I think Riley needs more floor time to shake off his slump, but he struggles defensively due to his lack of strength. Subbing Dre in makes us very small.

You should have just stopped there. It was good. But, I know, you never know. But, to answer your question regarding Booth, he didn't do anything bad. I think he will gradually get more of BH's time. IMO.

I've been watching college hoops for many decades. I can't ever recall seeing a player (let alone a huge one) literally wrap his arms around an opposing player's waist and throw him to the floor, which occurred in the paint as Gates had run onto the floor in anger nearby and was getting teed up.

And... no call. No review. Nothing. Dude should have been teed and tossed. We'd have ended up with four free throws and the ball. Apparently all three of the refs were staring at Gates and no one paying attention elsewhere. Mind bending incompetence.

I also can't recall feeling this dissatisfied after a Braggin' Rights win. But it is indeed a W. And oh my Boswell. Thank goodness he grew up in Champaign and apparently understands what this game means to us.

Don’t want to be a Debbie Downer in here but it needs to be said. Hum, Jake Davis, and Carey Booth are contributing a lot less than we hoped for at this point. Rotation beyond 8 guys is really weak. Not sure why Ty thought he wouldn’t be playing much…

I was glad to see Ben pulled for Booth at the 16:00 TV TO. Surprised it was Booth based on recent substitution patterns. He has so much athleticism and rebounding ability. Loved seeing him play next to Rez out there. They were such a defensive force.

Had to watch the game later in the day, and just got caught up with the postgame thread. Any win over the Tiggers is a great one! 🙂
