When Ty redshirted the big comparison was between him and Tre. Would be interesting to see see Ty getting some Ben playing time. He’s gives up 3 inches but would hold his ground. Bulldog rebounder and not losing much offense.
Ty chose to redshirt because he was at best the 4th (non-shooting) PG & 3rd (undersized) C.

I would rather minutes go to players who chose to play for the Illini this season.

Love how we showed some grit to pull off that win. We couldl've easily collapsed like we did against NW or TN. Still baffled by Humrich's PT, there is no way he's a BIG10 caliber player, just completely looks deer-eyed and the deer is super unathletic and can't shoot. Need Riley to come back to us and the Euro's to stop making lazy, senseless passes. KJ and KB showing us what leadership looks like.

Most Illini fans are thinking something very different when they think of Perkins and special in the same sentence.
Despite being 0’fer against us, that dude has been special against us on an individual level. There are many “Tony Perkins vs Illinois” highlite reels out there.

Ya'll, I've got the first 4 being fouls here at the high school level. (NFHS)

You cannot jump forward into the offensive player. You can be square to the defender and jump up or backwards but not forwards.

The last foul, that's a no call.
Gonig by the book, yes, you're right. But the issue was that our guys were getting clobbered on one end and were not allowed to play the same way on the other end. Call a tight game, call a loose game...whatever. Just call the thing consistently.

Just finished watching the game and that’s a gutsy win. KJ is a beast but Boswelll was the leader today.

Other thing I’ll say is the BH hate on here is getting stupid. They targeted him early and he did exactly what you’re supposed to: wall up and force a tough midrange shot. They made tough shots but not b/c of bad D. His 2nd half D was VERY good…not perfect but he played well. I get it that his shot’s not falling and that’s gotta change. But he wasn’t nearly as bad as some of you are acting like. Where are the same takes on WR?
WR is a freshman re-class and very obviously needs a year of strength training & for the game to slow down.

Sure BH bodied up pretty well on few plays, but he is at best inconsistent boxing out & generally a step slow on perimeter D.

Also he's gone 3-18 from 3 with 6 rebounds & 2 FTs in 95 minutes the last 3 games.

He goes out of his way to let anybody know that’ll listen, that he doesn’t read social media. If that’s true. That’s probably a good idea.

Yeah, he just looks completely off- he needs to stop just shooting threes and take it to the paint, he has an incredible offensive toolset - he needs to use it to get going. His three point shot is way off and it’s affecting his whole game

I understand that about WR and his future but a lot of the critiques of BH apply to WR right now.

He didn’t play well on a “few” plays…he played very good D the majority of plays. He’s had his struggles for sure but to keep piling on today is not based on reality.

The shooting slump is the issue b/c that’s what you really need him to do. But the reality is that he is a space creator even if he’s not hitting his shots b/c he is a threat. Nobody else on this team gives you that.

And let me be clear, he’s deserved criticism for sure. But some of the comments on todays game are off-base.

Exactly!!!!!

They're the same player right now. Riley, for whatever reason, was deemed to be destined for the NBA next year. Absolutely no way, as of right now at least. He's been as bad or worse than Ben.

Tough to watch the officiating- I know we all watch with biased glasses - but Mizzou is such a punk team- the two hand shoes in the back when someone goes to screen, slapping and hacking all the time, yet we were the only team in foul trouble. Very oddly officiated

On the plus side we showed we can win a close one- which is very encouraging- KJ had two big shots, Boz and Tre with big contributions down the stretch. We need to get Riley going, he’s the missing piece right now
Are you sure you’re not talking about the TN game? At this point, these redonkulously officiated games are starting to run together.

Well, everyone is contributing less than I hoped with the exception of KJ. But I always have high hopes and modest expectations.

Booth, Davis, and Ben about what I expected. I never much got the excitement.

It's hard for me to keep people straight on here. Not sure if it was an isolated few or a majority with the inflated expectations.

Yeah the upside is still pretty high if we get more out of Boswell, Ben, Will as far as shooting the 3. If they don’t really come out of it, and this is the team we got, the positive is we’ve shown to be a scrappy team that can win with offensive rebounds and 1 elite top 5 pick. Not sure how many wins that takes us too? 11-9 in the Big 10 i would estimate. If the other guys pick up their games we could be a #3 seed or better in the tourney bc we do a few things (rebounding and defense) way better than originally thought possible.

I wasn't home for the end of the game. In reading through all the posts, no one on here mentioned him. Am I allowed to ask who you are talking about or would that be considered criticizing one of the players?

Let’s just clear this air a bit here.

Nobody is “hating” BH. None of this criticism is “hate”.

It is very obviously pointing out that Ben is not deserving of all the minutes he is getting. Especially at the expense of Morez.
Today really exposed this and if the end of the game is any indication, BU and staff may just be coming around.

He was billed as an elite shooter. He is not. He’s a good shooter struggling against high level completion. He gives nothing else extra vs Morez, Tre, and probably Booth at this point.

And there are legit basketball minds pointing all of this out. It’s not just a couch avocado fan grumbling.

While this is all true, i’m not sure Morez can play much more than 20 min wo fouling out.
But i’d keep him out there until he fouls out.

And, to the original poster's thought, this is another reason why WR gets less flack.

Riley is driving, drawing fouls and you can already see what it will look like when he gets stronger.

For sure. But also he will learn with PT and we only get a sophomore & improved MJ if he plays.

Ben should get Goode minutes and, if hes not having a hot shooting night, should get the same minutes as Ty.
