Prior to tonight, absolutely. And I don't know how you can come away from that game without being concerned about our first half performance. We can be good and still have consistency and intensity issues. It's not binary.
Prior to tonight, Absolutely not. I know how I can come away because we turned a 15 point deficit into a 25 point win.

Out of curiosity, what are your thoughts on our slow starts, tendency to give up extended scoring runs, and high turnover numbers?

Again, we can be a really good team but still have serious issues we need to continue working on to get better. Underwood in today's postgame talked extensively about how everyone was disappointed in our lack of effort and intensity in the first half. Was he just blowing smoke?

I feel like part of it my not be feeding off the crowd and that includes playing on the road too as far as the slow starts and possibly the scoring runs. As for the turnover margins, I don't know. Why do we go on runs? Why did NW shoot 2-24? Some things you can't figure. If we could then the turnovers would be less. We're not the only team with high turnovers.

We don't have serious issues. Penn State, IU, Nebraska they have serious issues. If we had serious issues we'd be where they are right now. I think you don't really know what you are talking about and one of these 'fans' that try to come off sounding neutral and always looking for the negative. You posted something ridiculous the other about this team that made no sense and tried to prop Michigan in the process. I don't care if you think Michigan has a killer instinct and you think we lack it 12 games into the season. That is such crap.

I think a big part of it is playing teams they feel they can beat. They seem to come out with more energy against higher quality teams.

Something else I was noticing was it seems a lot of the defensive effort is tied in to whether they are making shots or not. First half NW was getting lots of open looks and those vanished in the 2nd. That is something I see as a bigger problem because they have to be locked in on D to get anywhere in the postseason.

That's a good observation. I am encouraged to hear Kofi talk about recognizing how locking down on D in the second half led to better offense. I thought our defensive intensity was excellent at the end of last season. I'm hoping we can consistently get back to that same level this year. Good defense leads to transition offense and easier offensive opportunities. And we are really hard to beat in transition. Gotta play to our strengths.

Love this!

That said, no one needs to eat crow. We played like absolute trash in the 1st half. I said I didn't know whether it was Underwood or the players. I still don't but whatever it was, major kudos to Underwood AND the players for their halftime adjustments, their perseverance, their effort, and their performance.

With this team, it sometimes seems that missing shots is contagious and making shots is contagious.

When multiple players started making shots in the second half it was pretty demoralizing for Northwestern. You could just see the wind taken out of their sails, eventually ending up in the water trying to keep their head afloat.

I wonder what the ILL moneyline was at halftime?
I want to say it was like +350 according to Yahoo! at halftime. I checked some stats and I'm pretty sure it was close to about that number. I thought that was a solid bet as I knew the Illini would make it close, but I didn't expect a 25 point win. I live in Maryland though and sports betting is still illegal (passed a bill in November to legalize it, but details haven't been worked out) and I don't care enough to try to go through any work arounds to get by it and bet.

Grandson was a huge spark. There was a point in the game when we we were still behind and he made a pass, got a critical rebound, stole the ball or made a shot on nearly every possession. Not sure why he’s barely played the last few halves, but I hope he stays part of the rotation.
He hasn't played because early on, he looked horrendous and didn't play the right defense and the offense suffered. Now he is doing all the right things and getting confidence...watch out!!

Hate to admit this, but this was running thru my head ~ 1 month ago. Along with "a silly millimeter longer, 101".

Sat down towards the end of the first half, after screaming rebound at the top of my lungs several times. Happy Ayoooooooo and KOFEEEEEEEEEEEEE and MILLER TIME in the 2nd. Thought the Purdue game was up and down.

GO ILLINI!

Great come back....one of the biggest turn arounds that I can remember and I've been watching Illini hoops for 50 + years....but gotta get rid of these Jekel-Hyde games or we're not gonna win the B10 or reach the final 4
