I will say it again, that we should all sit back and really enjoy this debut of a future superstar in Andre Curbelo.

I am hard pressed to recall any freshman that flourished virtually immediately in the challenging environment of Big Ten play.
We are so lucky that he is an ILLINI.
My apologies to Miller and Hawkins, without question this is an electric class.
Too much of too good stuff for everyone.

I know Iowa didn't go away but, for the most part, we handled them. They are going to be a 2 SEED is the Big Dance and we handled them. Buckle up fellas. I-L-L!
We didn't hit many 3's, played only so so on offense, IMO
and yet a top ten team couldn't get closer than 5 for essentially the entire game
and when they did get that close, we always pushed it out to double digits in no time at all.
Even a BS flagrant 1 that cost us a bunch of points was shrugged off with ease.
Man is this team good or what?

I’m watching the game with my 93-year old grandma. Unfortunately, her sight is at an all time low - she saw Luka Garza on TV just now and said, “That’s a handsome young man.”

I've still been chillin with some awesome tunes and a beverage or three and i started thinking......" if I was a coach going to the dance and I find out tomorrow that I will or might have to play the FIGHTING ILLINI, how would i plan and prepare a scouting report that would allow me to stay with their multi-pronged team that attacks on offense and locks down on defense......Do I double Kofi down low....do i let him get his and play the arc to limit 3's ?????
how do I attack their D ????

I think this gif aptly describes what the other coaches will think........

I thought each half was officiated well....although completely different. I would prefer each half to be called the same, but even officials use halftime to talk over adjustments. The first half was definitely called in such a way that it was much more enjoyable to watch. It has been my experience that letting them play will make for better flow and less complaints as long as the players can play within certain parameters. Once they cannot and things are headed off the rails then you have to make some adjustments and hope they adjust as well.

Also, to those Iowa fans complaining about Curbelo sliding with the ball on the floor.......you can slide from endline to endline with no violation. Once you stop you cannot roll over or sit up without dribbling. The NCAA rule is the same as the NFHS rule on this. Here is the case from the NFHS casebook:

4.44.5 SITUATION B: A1 dives for a loose ball and slides after gaining control. A1 is in a position either on his/her back or stomach. What can A1 do without violating? RULING: A1 may pass, shoot, start a dribble or call a time-out. Once A1 has the ball and is no longer sliding, he/she may not roll over. If flat on his/her back, A1 may sit up without violating. Any attempt to get to the feet is traveling unless A1 is dribbling. It is also traveling if A1 puts the ball on the floor, then rises and is first to touch the ball. (4-44-5b).

I loved that every time Iowa threw a punch, we came back with a great counter. This team has been great about responding to runs and killing opponents momentum. That's a sign of a really good team.
Yep that was a quality top ten team we did that to.

Hope everyone is enjoying this as this team is special. Outside of a few minutes, it felt like we were easily the superior team and Iowa is gonna be a top 3 seed in the tourney. Damonte needs to knock that nonsense off, it could easily cost us a game in the NCAA tournament.
Maybe it’s just me. But I think that was clearly acting by the Iowa player. If you look at the angle they never show. The Iowa’s player is acting IMO

Short on time-is Fran’s presser worth watching?
Also, as much as I’d love to see the rematch, how cool is it that the Illini are playing for the BTT title tomorrow but the conference champs* are not?!
Actually, not as whiney as usual, but nothing worth watching.

I think you double Kofi until he proves he can pass out. Other than that, I got nothing.

Thought Fran showed his normal vivacious personality but thought he and his players were good sportsmen. Luka very classy in his responses.

Based on the last 10 games or so doubling kofi has had little effect....Now if you had said triple team him thats another story.....ssssssss///////

Long time lurker but first post. Of course I’m here to talk about Curbelo. He’s not the main guy but I have a feeling if we win it all he is gonna be a huge factor. Next year or 2 years from now superstar that is becoming that with each game this year. Kind of a Jalen Brunson at Nova freshman year vibe. Brunson was better overall that year but the same effect of the freshman giving that extra kick to get over the top.
