Illinois 83, Duke 68 Postgame

Agree. He was 5 for 9 and 3 for 5 on his 3pt attempts. Certainly passed the eye test from my viewpoint.
For Duke to improve, one of those guys needs to just take charge and lead. It probably needs to be Steward. I frickin' love Ayo's leadership for Illinois, which doesn't take away from what Trent and Damonte do. You always hear about "glue guys." Illinois has them, Duke doesn't - yet.

I don't think TOs really captures the issue (although certainly not good). Steward is less of a table setter and more a scoring combo guard. They have several well rounded playmakers that can make plays for themselves and for teammates (DJ, Johnson, Roach) but they don't have anybody whose role is breaking down the defense and finding open shooters/cutters -- most of those guys appear to be more comfortable getting their own shot rather than getting somebody else an even better shot.
I wouldn't trade Curbelo or Miller for him, but I'd take him on our roster in a heart beat.

Bogie was a stud and that Collinsville team were undefeated state champs as seniors, counting my Paris Tigers among their 31 wins. Fred Riddle and Bob Meadows also names I remember.. Riddle signed with Iowa and I am not sure where Meadows played college ball. Rodger Bohnenstiehl, a future All-Stater, Kansas Jayhawk, and NY Knick, was also in high school at the time but was a freshman or soph.

Bogie will be remembered by Illini fans as part of the 63 Big Ten Championship team, a title won on the last day of Big Ten Play. I have never decided who my favorite player on that team was as they had so many, but Don Freeman, at 6'2" and playing mostly inside has to be admired for what he could do. Downey, of course, could score big time. Tal Brody seemed to run hot and cold while Skip Thoren was a solid post player every night.
My brother played on the #2 ranked high school team in the state that year (60-61). Unfortunately, they were upset in the sectionals and didn't get a chance to take on Collinsville. They finished 25-2.

Garza was 6 for 20 shooting last night. Is that a player of the year game?
If he had double digit boards, some assists, and double digits from the line while drawing multiple fouls on opponents. Yes it is . Even if i hate Iowa there are a ton of other factors.

I remember Illinois playing UCLA. Don Freeman broke their press by driving up the middle going up in the air and after they came down and he was still flying hit the open man then a pass to Bogie Redman ( automatic ) in the corner and get back and play D.

Yet, Ayo isn't included with those factors. Unbelievable!
