Probably unecessary.“Would you mind not hanging all these fouls on us at 100mph? It’s literally impossible to guard.”

Missed 3's especially badly missed ones often turn into easy fast break points for the other team and often change momentum to them.I agree with your point, but I would like to see Ty take a 3 every once in a while when no one is guarding him. I figure he might make it 20% of the time, and another 20% we get the rebound and score on the second chance. And if he actually makes 1, they have to at least think about guarding him.
What a jag...I wished someone would have asked him if he thought sticking his finger in the face of an opposing player is appropriate. I was half expecting an apology or at least a comment stating he should have refrained...but not from this clown. Good hands on the grab while straddling the OB line though. But I think I'll skip your late game time management clinic this summer.
Very true...his ability to be legitimately play on the perimeter & initiate offensive sets with his passing and vision is intriguing. These days you'll see a lot of these uber skilled 4's & 5's who are excellent passers hanging out at the key. I think scouts always knew Hawkins could do that, but throw in his ability to knock down 3's and you have yourself a modern day NBA 46'10" rim protector who can guard 1-5 (in fairness guarding 5's is increasingly a worry) and can't be left alone in the corner is the starter kit for getting NBA scouts intrigued, someone is definitely going to give him a chance.
We won but got outcoached. Underwood's old school bullheadedness refusal to play zone against one of the worst three pointing shooting teams is laughable....unless you're rooting for that team. It cost them the first time that they played them and it almost did again. We won because the talent level was so much different. Nothing else.
Yikes. Now you have me fearing that that's exactly what's gonna happen in an elite 8 game against Arizona.im concerned that TSJ will be "out of control" in the eyes of non-big ten officials come tournament time and
not get those foul calls.
I kind of agree but I believe he knew the writing was on the wall and that he wasn't going to survive past that season. Coaches typically don't leave that early into a season unless it is a health situation or unless they know the situation is not a survivable oneMy understanding was it was mutual. I always thought he was a pretty decent coach but with an abrasive personality. The irrational Maryland fans turned on him and sounds like admin did too, so seemed like a - “if I’m gonna leave, it’ll be on my terms” kind of situation
Arizona has their own version of an “out of control” player too that has nowhere the natural finishing strength and speed as TSJ. Fewer fouls in that type of game favors us.Yikes. Now you have me fearing that that's exactly what's gonna happen in an elite 8 game against Arizona.
I think we need some kinda cleansing ritual now.
TSJ is occasionally pulling up and hitting the open 15 footer.Huge difference is his ability to go right this year. Teams could load up left side and he didn’t have room to maneuver. I think he made tremendous improvement.
How about against Carolina? Will tourney refs kill TSJ like they did Augie in '05?Arizona has their own version of an “out of control” player too that has nowhere the natural finishing strength and speed as TSJ. Fewer fouls in that type of game favors us.
As an aside, we're really good in late clock shot situations.Maryland's decision not to foul after they missed a three and Illinois rebounded the ball, with Maryland down 4 with 45 seconds left was truly bizzarre. Illinois killed 25 seconds of the shot clock and Shannon foul-baited (refs calling everything that game) anyways to go to the line with 19.6 seconds left. Not sure if the Coach justified his decision to the Press after, maybe having 3 guys with four fouls played a role? It was just a really bad decision.
I still hate that "four verticals" in-bound play out of a timeout. It was nice when it was first used and teams hadn't scouted it. Now it just seems kind of easy to clog up the middle and then it's just one on one on the "deep routes", with a 1 on 1 being hardly ideal for a deep pass from the sidelines. It doesn't seem to me like it should feel quite so difficult to in-bound the ball with the other team pressing...As an aside, we're really good in late clock shot situations.
Lots of subtle "big, old, and experienced" aspects to the way we play, nice to see.
