Illinois 85, Maryland 80 Postgame

I know. I got a chuckle remembering those discussions on here while I was looking at the box score. Ya think we’d have learned by now. Brad as about 80% of all D1 HC’s like a nice, tight rotation — especially this time of year. I think Brad’s head would explode if he tried to consistently employ a 9 or 10 player rotation.
That said, it was nice to see Amani get a little tick today.

We will look back on Domask's tenure here and realize how lucky we were in the same way we do with Feliz in terms of the types of players they are. Maybe even moreso. Marcus is an incredibly consequential addition in so many ways. Our team simply would have failed without him after the TSJ legal issues surfaced and yet he comes back and still is alpha B, very happily. Wow did we get lucky not only that he is so good on many axis but that he and TSJ support each other fundamentally. Brad has his culture and it is fire.

So Willard starts by catching a ball that's in play and then give a pointing finger lecture to TSJ. Then he whines like a little b_itch about foul disparity without one complimentary word about Illinois. Brad went out of his way to say nice things about the crowd, Kevin's efforts and their defense. I think it's time for Brad to have a quick meeting at the closest Pizza Hut!:shield:
Yeah - Willard has quickly moved into the classless coaches list. Officials needed to call a Tech on him for grabbing a live ball while standing on the court. I thought the officials were pretty poor for a number of reasons- Jamir Young not getting enough calls is not one of them.

He’s the perfect coach for that fanbase. Turgeon was a far better coach, but I guess he didn’t whine enough for them.

Too many wins this week in the 4 spots ahead of us. Look for us in the 12-13 range IF voters actually pay attention to what they are supposed to be analyzing. I know, I know, that’s a big ask.
Number 11 and 13 both lost at home just today, UNC lost to a terrible Syracuse team this week- there should be spots to move up

I get that Ty was in foul trouble, but I can’t understand why Luke was in over Quincy in crunch time tonight

Yeah, we have to make some changes to make Luke playable unless the other team just doesn’t have quick players anywhere. Love Luke’s effort and attitude, but right now he’s overwhelmed defensively.

If Luke’s going to be out there, we have to adjust our coverages when his man sets a screen on a quick guard. This should be Luke calling out something like a trap instead of a switch. Watching him try to guard any quick guard is torture and asking for us to give up a bucket. So it has to be trap and everyone else help and recover. We did a nice job of that today when doubling Reese and then recovering back as a unit. Have to recognize when the right time to switch is and when the right time to fight through a screen is, and with Luke it needs to be fight through or trap the action.

Would’ve hated to play that game without Terrance. Goode and Ty are regressing. I would have been interested to see Dain and Coleman play together in that game and Dain throw his big body on Reese a little bit
Not worried about Ty. He was +20. Luke on the other hand….seems to have really lost his confidence.

Goode needs to bounce back. Can't get that type of performance from a vet in the tourney.

0'fer across the board and 4 fouls.
Personally, I'm not ready to anoint Goode as a veteran just yet. Perhaps next year.... But yes, he has markedly declined the past several games and it would be in our/his best interests to step it up here on out.

IA ST and Baylor are 10 and 12 and both had 2 wins, thus they should stay ahead of us. If UNC drops really far, that’s our only hope of sub 12. Blue bloods keep artificially high rankings, so not holding out much hope for that

The problem with Goode is he’s not hitting his threes or free throws lately and he’s become such a liability defensively with teams now seeking him out and his rebounding has declined

I’m a fan of Goode, but he’s been a liability recently

Sry to nitpick but this narrative, wherever it came from, bothers me for some reason.

LG has not shot above 70% FT in any season with us so far. Yes, it's low volume but there's nothing he's shown that should make anyone expect reliable FT shooting from him. Which, is confusing because he is a shooter and a dang good(e) one even in a funk.

Ps- I am 109% pro-Goode. He's an EDG, just needs to shoot himself out of his slump and be put in better situations with what he's asked when he's on the court.
