Illinois 86, Rutgers 63 Postgame

They started showing it more today having him be the ball handler coming off the weave action. Basically was playing the Ayo role on those sets.
I loved that play, or maybe 2, where he dribbled from one side of the court, around the top of the key straight to the basket and laid it in. I had to say Wow out loud. lol.

DGL is not going anywhere ... He trusts Brad ...

There is a lot going on with that entire situation with his Mom ... I will not talk about it publicly ... We as a fanbase just can't assume because someone from a kid's family is saying something that the kid shares the same thoughts ...
In fairness, she was saying the same stuff when he was a Purdue commit. Just keep him happy and on the team and it'll be fine. Kid's got serious potential as a shooter and distributor.

I'm convinced this is BU's best team. We have a guy that absolutely should be a first-team All-American. We have four other seniors who can take over a game if needed, including one coming off our bench. We have the ultimate glue guy in Ty. A quality three-pointer shooter off the bench in Goode. And a talented big in Dain who can get buckets if the matchup requires it. They’re unselfish, can play lockdown defense, crash the boards, and get buckets in so many different ways. With all due respect to the Kofi and Ayo teams, this year's is more complete from top to bottom.
CoHawk + TSJ > Kofi + Ayo. Just need a second weekend to put the cherry on top

Awesome win. Love this team.

Only thing I can add that hasn't already been said is, I thought the Krush was solid today. They brought energy and noise from the opening tip. And they weren't just reactionary. Probably their best performance of the year.

The list of guys who don't would be shorter ... :ROFLMAO:

If you polled all the Big Ten coaches ... They would say we are the most annoying fan base by far but we are also the most informed ... Not just about our own team but about the league as a whole ... Lot of coaches come on here to read what we are saying ...
In that case, I hope they read this

1) Mich State - Izzo Im sure will continue to cry when his team doesnt do enough and will get a 12 seed

2) Indiana - please keep Woodson - seems like a solid developer and great coach

3) Juwan Howard - was wrong about you - cool as cucumber amd love his street toughness from Chicago

4) AWOI - great mastermind of defense

- too lazy to work on others

I LOVED Justin Harmon today! It was HIS day! He played like a STUD, not a second stringer.

Daddy Brad has the right philosophy-- the sixth man (Men) come into the game not to hold the fort-- but to elevate the team. And Justin has caught this vision the last few games; but especailly today! He contributed everywhere- rebounding, defense, passing, shooting.... I didn't think he had those skills in him, but hes a REAL competitor and an asset. He's gone from a small school conference and has learned to assert himself. He parked Ty on the bench the second half...

And Guerrier- what a warrior! His 7th double/double of the season, after just two at Oregon last year. He said that they just parked him outside the three point line where he would launch threes ( hard to rebound from there!) And he's in such good shape, running all day. I love it that this team never walks it up even when ahead. They're always searching out the 2-1, 3-2 advantages, with cohawk and Quentin there to clean up.

I'm sure no one looks forward to playing against our "old"team, especially with TSJ back.

TSJ made 4 baskets totalling 6 feet, and still had 16 points. I truly believe that without Shannon today, we would have won by 20 and scored in the 80"s.

Go Illini! Can you believe the change in make-up from last year? Maybe coach Underwood CAN coach?

Also - Want to give some credit where it's due ...

Our offense last year had me wanting to pull my hair out ... And we have adjusted incredibly this year IMO ... Changed schemes ... Changed personnel ... We play to our strengths and are extremely unselfish ... We crash the offensive glass on every possession ... I love watching it ...

And Tyler deserves a TON of credit for that ...
Indy, ALWAYS appreciate your insights.

With Tyler being more involved in the offense…is he working with Geoff on it? Is GA still involved in the offense?

Thanks again

Just a thought. He may trust Brad and be willing to do anything he is asked....but if he can't defend, hit 3s, and avoid senseless turnovers, he will get recruited over every year. Long way to go before he sees the floor much for the level of play BU wants his teams/players to perform. I hope the light goes on and he can become a solid contributor, but his place in the rotation is pretty much solid for this season. Hope he is patient and works hard and with a purpose.

After last years groundout, I’m glad Brad hit a homer.

It was just so much fun to watch TSJ play basketball again
Last year’s transfer class was Shannon, Mayer, and basically Dainja. That’s not a groundout… that’s a home run, a single, and a double who got thrown out by twenty feet trying to stretch a triple. But the parts didn’t really address the needs (stuck relying on freshmen PGs, and need for veteran leadership).

This year’s adds are successful individually AND in addressing team needs (though most on this board would’ve disputed that with respect to PG-need up through at least November).

Question for insiders: Without divulging too much information...How does the portal recruiting process work?? Are we currently looking at needs for next year and putting together a list of potential recruits? If so who on staff spearheads that effort?? Then how does contacting potential recruits work? Think coaches would be p*ssed if they knew their players were talking to other schools about next year already. I know things have changed pretty drastically with recruiting since NIL's and the portal....just curious how the timeline works for this process......thanks

He’s certainly not the scorer Epps is (not as good of a handle, pull-up jumper or finishing package around the hoop). But he is bigger and stronger, a better passer, miles better defender and just overall higher-IQ player

What version of Epps did you watch? All I saw was him miss jumper after jumper and could only finish on wide open layups.

He’s a plus athlete and by all accounts trusts the process and puts in the work. He’ll be a star if he stick with it and stays healthy.

First game I’ve been to in a long time. First time my wife has actually been to a game in Champaign with me.
Here are a few observations from the weekend:
The wife and I spent Saturday afternoon bar hopping to include lunch and dinner while out. We started in Campus Town and ended the night downtown Champaign.
We talked to a lot of people and it is amazing how few people had a thorough understanding of the TJ situation. Mind blowing. It tells me that we are all avid…much more so than common folk.
I observed in warm ups that the shooting was going to be somewhat sketchy today. No one seemed to have their shooting groove in warm ups. Not sure why….but very easily observed.
When the team came back out after warm ups for the start of the game, it was TJ that led the team out and was the first one on the court - to a tremendous ovation by the crowd. Cool moment. No question this is a unified team.
Another ovation when about 2 1/2 minutes in, he was headed to the scorers table to enter the game. The roar of the crowd was loud well before he even reached the scorers table.
Obviously things started slow for TJ. Appeared he was pressing a bit. When he had the 2 fast breaks and the thunder slam, I thought the roof was going to blow off Assembly Hall. (Yes…it’s still AH to some) Likely that it was shown over and over on TV, but his pose post tomahawk dunk was awesome.
Completely separate, we met the Domask clan and the Goode clan. Both terrific families. Super nice folks. Obviously both players have been “raised right”.
Great game to attend and thanks to my brethren for all the restaurant and bar suggestions. Great weekend back at UIUC.
Side note, on the drive back to STL this afternoon/evening she commented we need to do this monthly during basketball and football season.
Deal.
