Illinois 87, Iowa 83 Postgame

Yesterday's win is the first time Illinois has started 2-0 in B1G since the 2013-14 season.

Not to look too far ahead, but Illinois has the potential to start 5-0 in the B1G before the 2nd weekend in January when they host Michigan and Purdue. Their next 3 B1G games before that weekend they play at Minnesota, host Maryland, and are at Nebraska.

Better not assume anything. Every game is a battle.

I'm sure it's probably been stated earlier but where is Hutcherson ? Injury thing again ?
Thanks
Hutcherson is probably #10 in rotation and coach shortened the rotation last night. No Melendez. Goode, Payne, bbv all just a tick, Basically a 6 man rotation.

IOWA CITY, Iowa – The University of Iowa’s methods for keeping the basketball out of Kofi Cockburn’s hands worked splendidly the first half at Carver-Hawkeye Arena on Monday.
When Illinois solved that conundrum, other creases in the Hawkeyes’ defense became easier to exploit.
After being limited to one first-half shot, Cockburn scored 10 points in the opening seven minutes after halftime. The Illinois guards soon joined the party to capture an 87-83 Big Ten Conference victory before a crowd of 12,072.

According to Underwood, Cockburn’s halftime demeanor spoke volumes.

“Kofi’s grown in a lot of ways, most of them mental,” Underwood said. “Halftime as a freshman he would have been frustrated, upset, ticked off. It would have affected other parts of his game. Now he’s saying ‘I’m open. Get me the ball, but don’t force it.’ There is a tremendous maturity with that.”

“I’m pretty ecstatic. It was not pretty, but we got a road win coming to their building,” Underwood said. “A couple things you have to do to win on the road is rebound and execute late. That includes free throwing shooting.”

The Illini recovered from the Hawkeyes’ 21-2 surge as Grandison tossed in back-to-back 3-pointers that brought Illinois within 33-32.

“We didn’t have an answer for those runs early (in the season),” Underwood said. “Now we do.”

The last statement by BU says a lot to me .....the Illini have progressed and I look forward to Saturday's game with a lot more optimism than I had a week ago......

Go Illini ......................

The Department of Redundancy Department is strong here on Loyalty.
Ha ha! Ok, to help fund the department with more material, here's what I would tell Curbelo if I were talking to him:
The act of a great magician is only about 3% wow. The rest of the show he looks like a normal guy, while he is setting the audience up. You might think about doing the same with your game. Spend most of the game acting like a normal point guard, setting them up for just a couple "wow" moments per game.

Robert from IlliniBoard did a full write up and interview with him:

Thanks for sharing, lstewart! This kid is absolutely awesome. So glad that Robert recognized him and now Coach Frazier is going to reward his determination, guts, and ILLINOIS LOYALTY with some new Illini gear. He deserves it. Way to represent, Matthew! I-L-L

he got a huge and 1 when it was close
I would find benefit on offense from 6 assists against 2 TOs...the only player on the roster who had an a/TO over 2
4 boards is good from the guard spot

youre surprised our 6'3 guard had trouble stopping the 6'9 leading scorer in the country? That was only his job because hawkins fouled out.

Did you really just watch that game and conclude DMW did nothing beneficial to the team? LOL
