This win is for my big brother (74) who I lost this morning to a heart attack, the guy who initiated my passion for all things Illini. He’s the reason I went to Illinois as he was a senior when I was a freshman. There ya go, Charlie! This one’s for you! 🧡 💙

:chief::hailtotheorange::chief:
you and your family have my heartfelt sympathy , my dear Illini sister..........stay strong dear one as we here at loyalty support you and have your back..........once again , so sorry for your loss...........I really really am.......................😪

The team is 4-1 with TSJ back. Weaving him back into the offense and defense schemes we all knew would take time. Brad said at least the 6 games he missed. It’s only early Feb. He and the team will be back to FAU and Missou form in a couple of games but in the meantime 4-1 while they do that is actually pretty good. TSJ didn’t kill it tonight but he still had 18, solid D with big steal at the end, and his presence on the court opens things up. And now they don’t go to MSU overconfident but with a chip on their shoulder.

I’m very concerned about this team. With TSJ out we finally started using the length and athleticism combined with player and ball movement on offense and looked impossible to guard. We scored with efficiency inside the lane which opened up open outside opportunities. Now we are back to watching booty ball and relying on hitting threes. Outside of Domask we now look tentative on offense and as good as he can be, good coaches in this league will take his effectiveness away. With Quincy and Justin looking hesitant to shoot in rhythm and Terrance still not shooting well we aren’t likely to shoot people out of the gym. I’m concerned we will allow this talent to go to waste if coaching doesn’t improve. This team is playing well below its ability right now.
Don’t get me started on how ineffective we are on out of bounds execution. Definition of insanity…
Glad we won but there is a difference between winning ugly in a hard fought game and getting fortunate when you don’t play/coach well. I’m not a Brad-hater, I love the talent he’s brought and the passion he possesses but this has been an underwhelming season based on coaching. Again…hoping we get it turned around.
We played bootyball when TJ was out…..

I know I’m repeating…. TSJ absolutely should have scored that bucket at the end. I can only think he was trying to be “classy”, but the score wasn’t 2 scores up. This was absolutely the moment to dunk that and make the win 100%, not 99%
Gotta be smarter.

TSJ has yet to have a complete game and for him to take 10 threes is settling. He isn't not that type of shooter and he needs to attack the basket and dish to better shooters when doubled. We were luck to win tonight. Ty played to his strengths as did Hawkins n Domask. TSJ needs to play smarter and to his strengths. Jacking 10 threes isn't what we need from him.

Yeah, after the foul at the end, that'll be the last mercy possession of the year.

I actually thought we played pretty well for large portions of the game. Cannot collapse that like in regulation, just unacceptable. Glad we get to learn from a win.

Also, Nebraska played/shot out of their minds today. Actually thought the d on some of the threes was really good, Tominaga was just on one. That is a legit NCAA Tourney team and we got their A+ game

Updated conference EM:

- Purdue is good and clear of the rest of the conference now.
- Illinois and Wisconsin are 2 games clear of everyone else.
- MSU is going to likely be favored in all but one of their remaining games (at Purdue, but home vs IL could go either way)
- There is a huge glut of similar, unimpressive teams in the middle between 5-6 and 6-5. Who is the 5th best team? Probably Northwestern or Nebraska, who no longer has any games remaining against any of the top 3.
- Michigan is a special kind of bad right now and they've got maybe 2 winnable games left (at Rutgers, home vs Nebraska). Their next 6 games? Home vs Wisconsin, at Nebraska, at Illinois, home vs MSU, at Northwestern, home vs Purdue

For fun, the True Underwood Era (I am trademarking this from now on to mean excluding the first two rebuild years - 2019-20 to now) record in OT games:

2019-20
W 78-70 vs. Nicholls ... MAN, how did I forget this one??

2020-21
W 75-71 at Indiana
W 77-72 at Nebraska
W 91-88 vs. #9 Ohio State (BTT Championship)

2021-22
L 96-88 vs. #4 Purdue (2OT)

2022-23
W 85-78 vs. #2 Texas (Madison Square Garden)
W 91-87 vs. Michigan (2OT)

2023-24
L 96-91 at Northwestern
W 87-84 vs. Nebraska

So, 7-2 ain't bad!

Dude was on a heater. So was Mast for a stretch.
Thankfully Wilcher was a no show.

We cannot expect the booty ball to be effective when we start it from outside of the three point line. It gives the defense way too much time to overload that side and take it away.

We cannot just run Domask isolation with 3 minutes to go. Run the plays that we ran for the first 37 minutes of the game.

Brad’s time out usage is going to cost us a game at some point. I just hope it’s not the last game of the season. It’s absolutely pitiful (whatever opposite of elite is). We had all of the momentum, TJ splashed a 3 to go up 10 with 3:27 to go, and we call a time out. Why? Why call a time out when the momentum is completely on our side? We then dribble the air out of the ball for three minutes following the timeout until it’s a 1 point game before we ever call a time out (you know, to stop NEB’s momentum and actually draw up a play).

They were very good, but there's something about our maturity and steadiness that seems like a bit of a double-edged sword at times. That playing with consistency and under control kinda simultaneously leaves us without the extra gear to knock somebody out.

We're a boxer with an iron chin, but without knockout power of our own, and that will always let good teams back into games we should be racing away from.

Nebraska played a hell of a game for sure. And part of our problem was simply missing wide open threes after our offense successfully generated them.

But yeah, the end of regulation was...
