The first game I'm pleased with the in game adjustments. Loved seeing us attack the paint in a variety of ways.
I very much enjoyed watching US take those backdoor cuts for easy layups instead of watching Maryland/Nebraska doing it to us. It really is more fun to give than receive.

If Will doesn’t go NBA, I really hope we can bring that lineup that closed things out next year too. They would be insane with driving to the rim and awesome D.

Will, Kylan, DGL, Morez, Tomi

Thank you for correcting me. I must have 3pt. PTSD, from our previous 20 games. Appreciate that, atleast you didn't take 4 paragraphs to state it. I'm sure you get my point that we have the men that can score within the arc? And taking 30 to 40 3 shots per game is a recipe for losing all games, but every 5th game? Yes, we shot 2x as many free throws, probably should have been more.

In addition to a very satisfying win today, the Assembly Hall looked great as did the crowd on national, network broadcast TV. I'm not that experienced with NBA or other basketball venues, but what young man would not want to play in that building if they could play for a really great team?
Great day to have a 5 ⭐ in the building.

Finishing the game from this morning.1:52 seconds to go.
Did we just really Throw the ball away, out of a Timeout on a Inbounds Play? My God, Wtf is going on with that. All season coaches.

Did Brad take another little dig at Piper in the postgame when talking about where Dra jumped from on that dunk? Not sure if I heard that right or not. If so, that's like three conferences in a row he's mentioned Piper not being able to shoot the basketball, is there an inside joke there that we are missing?

Will in for Tre….hmmmm? I dunno 🤷‍♂️

Kinda depends if you’re getting Good Will vs Bad Tre…or Bad Will vs Good Tre right? (Even if we’re talking Good Will vs Good Tre…there’s something to be said for Tre…depending on circumstances.)

2.5 weeks ago…when Tre was putting up big numbers and Will was giving us not much…that would of seemed like a bad idea.

As of right now…as we sit here…recency bias and all I’d probably be inclined to agree but the very next game Tre is liable to put up 20 points and Will might not score at all. You know it’s true. It’s great to have 6 or 7 guys that COULD score. But we’re ALL (1-8) so dadgum streaky and inconsistent game to game…it’s anybody’s guess.

Question for our insiders:
MJ starting, or at least getting 20 minutes was obvious to many of us before Christmas. By waiting until the season is 2/3 over to do the obvious, have we damaged our relationship with MJ beyond repair? There was a reference to this many weeks ago.
I've heard here and from another guy that the usage in both quantity and methodology is starting to pull him into staying. Probably more likely to stay than go if the current trajectory stays as it is.

He's obviously so talented and brings so much of everything we need on this team. If giving Ben more minutes means we lose either Riley or Morez, I'm gonna start the petition for Sean Miller to be here and sign it like I'm Herby freakin' Hancock.

Hope Ben enjoyed the show from his spot on the bench, better get used to it
C'mon man. Is that really warranted? He's an Illini. He's one of us -- more so, since he's actually living it as opposed to being a keyboard warrior. Unless he gives us a reason to think he won't handle a benching well, then have some class and treat him like he's one of us -- because he is.

I feel like what happens this year will have a smaller impact on whether or not he stays, than how we prioritize him next year with NIL and usage.

Will staying hot and being one and done is better for the program than him playing next year.
If he comes back, puts on 20 pounds of muscle he could legit be a top 5 next year. This years draft is stacked in the top 10. Next year, especially with some weight and 3 pt shooting improvement...that's also a ton of money more for him and a lot better chance to stay in the NBA long term

Late 1st round picks are gambles in the league

MASSIVE response, MASSIVE and much needed win. Let this sink in for a moment.

Our opponent shot 11/23 from 3 (47.8%) and 14-15 from the FT line (93.3%) and only had 5 TO's

and

WE WON
One of the things I feel best about is that this is the first time in quite a while we faced an opponent who played well enough to win, and just played better than them.

Even though we have played well in several of our wins over the last month, it seems like opponents like Penn State, Indiana and Northwestern played poorly.

Every game where the opponent has played well (MSU, USC, Maryland) we lost and were not able to match them.

In the tournament you can't just rely on your opponent being off. All season long we have talked about the high ceiling of this team and seen it at times, but today was the first time we approached that ceiling and NEEDED it to pull out a win!

For the insiders

Tomi looked good and not like a person sleeping 16hours a day. How is his conditioning right now? How many practices did he have before playing.

He had rust today but looked good
That Brad guy, not officially a board insider but may know something about the team, said in the post game press conference:

1) That Tomi was 60% today.
2) He had gotten doctor approval after scans of the spleen on Friday.
3) Friday was a light practice due to travel delays on the trip back from Nebraska.
4) Tomi's first full practice was Saturday.

Brad apparently also insulted some reporter named Derek again. I'm not an insider, but based on other posters reactions to the insults, I expect Brad and Derek are going to be meeting in the Pizza Hut Parking lot to resolve things soon. My money is on Brad.

It's amazing what you can do when you go to the basket instead of chucking threes and praying. Hopefully Coach gets it now and starts working on an inside game plan instead of everybody always shooting (and mostly missing) from beyond the arc.
