Davis and Andrej, best players on the floor tonight. Followed by Keaton and Tomi. Incredible game after having one of your best players get injured. How do you show up without one of your leaders? Pretty darn good, underwood had them ready. Tough game Saturday, let’s see how they prepare.

As BU stated after the game...a very solid performance. Tip of the cap to AS for playing his best game ever at both ends. Likely, he has scored more in HS but to defend like tonight at this level is another matter.

And somehow, I would like every member of the team to understand this observation. The ball movement tonight was elite and unselfish...and absolute necessity for elite success. You all have offensive skills....trust each other!! There is nothing profound about that statement and I am quite certain they have all heard it many times...and it is showing more every game.

And Brandon Lee set a new NCAA record for the greatest percentage of the rim to come in contact with the ball in 4 free throw attempts or less !!!!!!

You don’t normally have a 7’2” center who is your “energy guy” but Big Z really brings it when he's in the line-up (and also on the bench). There was a play where he blocked a shot and beat nearly every player from both teams running back to the other end of the court. Driver could have dropped it off to him but instead drove all the way for a contested layup. Replay it and see who cheered that basket the most.

I am thoroughly enjoying this entire team. We have Keaton, who's still 18 year old. Turning 19 in February. Andre hit 4-3's in first half, amazing 👏. Still drove to bucket in 2nd half. I love this even more. Maturing and defense was phenomenal. Keep improving towards March. Not one team will want anything to do with us. Keaton will be a lottery pick, painfully obvious. I want to keep him so bad. 🤣

From the 9 minute mark of the first half to the 3:30 mark of the second half (25 minutes of game time), the Illini outscored Maryland 67-32 and looked amazing. Took about 10 minutes to find a groove and formula that worked, then pounded Maryland into submission before the subs let the score look closer than the game was (and that score was a 19 point game).

Before the 11-3 Maryland run at the end, the Illini defensive efficiency was very good, so that bodes well going forward.

Fun to watch. Kept their poise when Maryland came out on fire, hung with them when they were down a couple possessions, and then built a lead. Lotta guys played well and liking our defense. Yeah they scored, but not many easy ones.

If I'm Buzz Williams I tell my squad " don't poke the bear "............His players came in all cocky trying to play physical and throwing elbows and talkin smack and the bear starting to bite back to the tune of a 25-4 run midway of the first half on the way to a 89-70 home conference win........

season record : 16-3
B$G record : 7-1 and riding an 8 game winning streak...............

Andre S. with a personal Illini high game of 30 points and 9 rebounds.............
Jake Davis with 4 three's..............
Tomi with 9 pts , 7 rebs.........
Waglar with 13 pts ,7 rebs , 8 A.....
Mirko-Man with 15 pts , 9 rebs , 3 A and numerous bruises
Big Z with 2 F1 fouls.....a career high , I think................

All in all a great game played after the setback of Bam's injury but it showed the depth we really really have this season..........

We were up 27 and put in Fagbemi and AJ Redd before he came back in.

I actually think the end had more to do with him and Keaton being the only two remaining PGs. Seemed the plan was not risking injury (for a guy oft injured thus far). Although you could counter and say all the more reason for reps.

Brad usually always leaves the guys in long too, especially if going for something like a triple double. So I think KW came out a bit earlier than usual too.
