So, if the D can do it again against Minny, I'm noodling that we can start referring to our end zone as "the undiscovered continent, to whose bourne no visiting team is admitted...".

I'm sure others can do better. (Pruman...?)
it’s gotta fit on a bumper sticker so it can’t be more than 2-3 words max

That game was an emotional roller coaster. We've been on the other side of these so many times so it feels good to get this one. Praying that we get Devito back quickly. They need to release ticket specials for the Minnesota game TODAY!! No time to waste, just fill the stadium. And the ploy to give away FREE student tickets worked! The students showed up, and they rocked it out last night. Josh needs to rethink their marketing strategy, give out as many free tickets to get this engine running, and let's turn this thing around for good. Those free tickets still pay to park, buy merchandise, and buy food at the game so this is a win-win.

Was at the game, pretty good atmosphere but the crowd needs some training on when to get loud and not. I.e. don’t get loud when the offense has a critical play but do get loud on defense.

Overall very happy with the performance. My only complaint is that Lunney needs to realize time, score, and situation a bit better. We had three very questionable calls in my opinion based on not having QB1 in the game, that should not have been made. 1) that crazy throw back across the field that easily could have been a pick six at the end of the third quarter. We were moving the ball pretty well with runs and quick passes. 2) the decision to throw the ball from the 4 yard line when we were running well and points were at a premium. 3) the QB draw that nearly cost the game when again we needed to protect the ball and score points.

I think Lunney has been great so far this year but the time to get cute is not late in the game with a backup QB in a 6-6 game against Iowa.
Mostly agree but I have less issue with #3. That's on Art far more than BLJ. We were 99% playing for the FG at that point, so you limit the exchanges and just position the ball where your kicker wants it.

As someone said above (and I screamed during the game), just take a knee!

Why get rid of his son. Keep him so that we can beat Iowa like a drum in the future. Fire him and we lose that advantage in the future
I agree...somewhat. However, there's a part of me that wants the other Big Ten teams to be as good as they can be so when we beat them there's absolutely no question that we are a great team!

Gritty, you could make a weekend with Alexandra Daddario sound depressing.

We could easily finish 6-6 this season. We go 3-9 next year after losing a lot of our top players and Walters. As long as Bielema is at the helm I will still be confident in the future of the program because he clearly knows what it takes to build a program and knows how to execute.
And I'm the one who's being depressing?

There are excellent things happening with the program, we've evolved to higher level problems than just hoping we can shock enough volts into the frankenstein to get it going again.

The possibility of Sitkowski as a starter for some weeks in year 2 represents a program building failure and is going to be a major, major challenge for Barry Lunney. Those are things that need to be understood and corrected long term.

But heck man, we're 5-1, this is Illinois Football, nobody said it was going to be easy. It's frustrating knowing what's possible if we can get TDV back, but accept the challenge.

It’s rather fun walking through the STL airport on my way home. As I think back, this is probably the #1 all-time “in-person” Illini football win of my lifetime. (I had 3 years of Moeller and just one of Mike White). An incredible weekend on campus, gorgeous weather, family and friends, and a real football team to watch!

Bring on the gophers! Go Illini!!!!!!!

He had 31 carries... what do you want him to get? 50?
I don't want a specific number. I don't want a single pass play when it's 1st and goal and onward against Iowa. You don't want to feed Chase after 30 carries? FIne. Put in Love III and let him carry it. I don't care who runs it assuming we've coached up how critical ball security is, but do NOT pass into those Iowa linebackers. That's gawdammitz insanity with the ball inside the nine, a few minutes left and Iowa can't score. You just don't HELP Iowa win the game. Is that difficult to grasp? Iowa can't score on offense so if you want to win... just don't put Iowa's D in a position to succeed. She's really not rocket surgery.

IMHO her performance in Baywatch was overlooked by the Academy Awards. Oh and if you guys haven't seen True Detective Season one then you're really missing out (there's a particular episode where Alexandra Daddario steals the show)

as far as our football team is concerned, I am overjoyed with it and just letting the good times roll (Iowa literally couldn't do a damn thing against our defense and their fanbase is in full meltdown mode right now) Oh and I'm also grateful that I stayed away from the game thread last night and had my phone off too lol.

Hopefully Devito, McCray, Isiah & company all get well soon cause we're gonna need them.

You do know it’s only year Two? Hasn’t had a lot of time to recruit and only yr 1 of a new OC. I think they are doing wonderfully with what they were given. OL and DL were suspect coming in. Obviously QB, concern in the secondary. We were only picked by most people to win 4 games. We are pretty much in a bowl right now. I call it highly successful. I don’t see our lack of a great 2nd string qb a failure in program building.

#244
The best 2nd string QB is going to be like a Year 2 on-campus recruit, which we obviously just don't have. When you bring in DeVito, you aren't going to also bring in a different Transfer to sit on the bench. So it is what it is for this year.

I probably missed it in the comments and I’m tired of looking online. Anyone have the attendance figures from last night?

Also, from what I’ve read it seems there is work on the game experience that still needs to be done. I’m a bit disappointed to hear that after all that’s been said. An OK experience is not good enough. I’m not able to attend games, but for those that do I’d be very loud about what needs improved. You are doing it for everyone involved. For one thing, if you can’t get people in the stadium in a more timely fashion, then open the gates an hour earlier. You will sell more concessions and have happier customers. Just do it. No excuse for not enough cashiers to get concessions. Hire more workers or fire the contractor. I hate to be negative after a great win, but we have to demand more to get more. And I don’t mean stay away. I mean contact Whitman. Flood his email. Ultimately he’s the guy who can make the needed changes happen.

So 12-6 with DeVito?
Alot of "offensive" chatter on this board about our offense so i decided to do a little homework. Based on ESPN official stats, only Michigan got more yardage against Iowa than we did. 11 more and they averaged fewer yards per carry. And we did it with our backup QB. If TDV doesn't get hurt we probably win by 10 plus.
